I am either FUCKED or this is the quietest plane ride I'll have ever had in my entire life.

The Dawntrail OST update for the With Songs Aligned leitmotif site is almost done, but I keep finding new connections while I make updates to older entries.

For Sif, it's complicated. She never imagined herself a settled woman, and yet, there's Dug, who has been her common law husband for the better part of a decade. What difference would it make if they just tied the knot? It kind of scares her that the answer would be "very little". #saucedsongstress

Sif’s full name, Sifhalla, is a place in the Guild Wars universe. I had always like places as names, but this one was fairly covert since I could use a nickname for her. I developed the lore of her name backwards from there and ended up with a character trait that I like a lot.

I like the concept of bearing an entire place as a name. It comes with a lot of possible complications, depending on if that person has even been to that place, if they care about it, if it still exists or if they’re alright with being a human memorial to a long-gone place.

LRP is another symptom of why the Jessie Gender essay on women as wish fulfillment in media has been living in my head for over a month. :)

Data is done, but I have think about how to display it. With FFXIV it was easy to categorize by expansion, but WF has several updates per year, all of which are their own separate story. And because WF’s music relies on instruments to denote factions, it makes more sense to organize it by faction.

The only problem there is that many songs have multiple factions represented and I’d like to keep that apparent in the visualization as well, so this is gonna take some experimenting before I’m happy. 🤔

I GOT MORE. On-lyne is a musical narrator that hints at story elements in each of their songs! “Core Containment” is FULL of references! Each of the Round Table members has a song that represents them in the Techrot Encore update! (1999 is just a wild ride by itself tbh.)

I just want somewhere to put all of the neat connections that the DE music team lovingly puts into their work!! I want to count the number of times “This Is What You Are” show up to slap us! I want to point out that the three factions of 1999 are all represented in the 1999 album!

Moving over from Midgarsormr to Balmung for the first time in late 2015 (back when they were still on the same DC). I had been playing for barely a month and suddenly seeing people openly RPing in the Quicksand was my “oh, I could stay here a while” moment.

Balmung’s Ul’dah/Quicksand was a completely different atmosphere 10 years ago. There was no world or DC travel, so no tourism in the way we experience it now. It was still lively; the QS and Pearl Lane was still full of AFKers, but they were also more accessible walk-up RP hotspots then.

It’s October and it’s been a few years so it might be time to read FANGS by Sarah Andersen again.
