Capt Mark Kelly may be one of the most accomplished veterans in the US today, and calling him a traitor is absolutely bonkers. After what he and his spouse (you know, Gabrielle Giffords, who was nearly assassinated) went through, and have done for their country, this is bizarre

No one will stop me from defending our freedoms.

this is the second time i've actually broken ChatGPT for myself first time was a memory that was stored weird, polluting the context of all other chats; now, there is a single chat that is so broken that it disabled ALL chats unless 'chatlog history' is turned off at this rate they should pay ME

It took me WEEKS to move my entire Google Drive and Google Photos (+videos) archive to Proton Drive + NAS just so I can cancel Google One and stop giving them money without losing data. And I needed a tool to help me restore file dates from Photos/Videos, so I made one! github.com/dsuurlant/ta...

so one of my neighbors, idk who, has recently gotten a new wifi router that's been completely ruining mine with channel interference. 🤬 Hopefully my manual settings work, but it's seriously ticking me off that this ISP thought "let's grab max signal max width and ruin everything for your neighbors"

Every year my company joins the Great Cycle Challenge and it's a great way to raise money and exercise at the same time. 🤗 I've cycled 4.5 miles (7.2km) today! I'll donate $10 per mile myself. Will you match my donation? 💗 #GreatCycleChallenge greatcyclechallenge.com/teams/AlisQI...

call me crazy but i think "great writers" do the actual writing themselves

Every time you type a fresh prompt from scratch, you're burning time & creativity. Great writers don’t just know what to ask AI - they build systems for how they ask it. Modular prompting = faster output, sharper tone, consistent results. No more prompt roulette. robertdevore.com/how-to-build...

For a guy who's obsessed with going to Mars, Elon Musk sure is canceling a lot of STEM funding. How does he think we'll land on Mars if not through science, engineering, and medical advancements? Duct tape and memecoins?

Sent in 4 CFPs for conferences this year, and all of them got rejected. I think that's just part of the process though. There's only so many spots open and I don't have any reputation built up. But even if I did, I believe rejection is just a part of speakership! No reason to be discouraged.

I'll try to speak at meetups, refine my talks, and possibly come up with new ones. The thing is... I don't know if I'm super interested in tech talks that show a lot of code and such. I really want to talk about core skills more. Culture, mental health, diversity, neurodivergence...

The main argument against DEI is that it means mediocre individuals are preferred above the most capable candidate, but the opposite is true. W/o DEI & anti-discrimination action, the ppl who get hired are the ones alike those in power, whilst the excellent are passed over for being different.

Of course, that's the whole point of the anti-DEI movement. It means that mediocre people are no longer afforded the privilege they were accustomed to, and it levels the playing field. Those in positions of power will typically experience movement towards equality as an attack.

Finally, using a tragedy to promote one's anti-DEI agenda is a new low, but hardly unexpected. My heart goes out to the families of the victims, and as a figure skating fan, this is especially heartbreaking to me. 💔

Dismissing DEI will make sure hiring processes will miss out on or even outright reject the best candidates. Without a way to counteract systemic, ingrained biases, those who rise to the top aren't the best - it's those who are the most white, most cis, most straight. Regardless of skill.

My first CFP for DPC 2025 was rejected, it's likely that the second will as well. It's probably because I still have to build up more of a speaker profile, or there was a competing talk from someone more well established. I'm proud of myself for submitting the proposals either way!

Newsletter: Mark Zuckerberg's MAGA pivot is really just the continuation of years of rotting out the core products of Instagram and Facebook - and begins an era of unrestrained, unrepentant growth where tech will proudly make their products even worse. www.wheresyoured.at/the-slop-society/

Flooding social media with fake AI users has even more sinister consequences than the obvious engagement farming or propaganda use. It necessitates an end to anonymity for actual humans to connect online, making it easy to persecute and disrupt the activism of marginalized groups.
