Podcast update: The Night Watch - coming soon The Wee Free Men - recorded and being edited Quadrant 3 - to be discussed, it's strange to think we're (basically) 3/4s through! Due to doing a Christmas special in December, and the Quadrant 3 episode, it'll be a bit before we have a full book episode.

Discworld QOTD, from Feet of Clay “They were men who felt that The Time Had Come. Regimes can survive barbarian hordes, crazed terrorists and hooded secret societies, but they're in real trouble when prosperous and anonymous men sit around a big table and think thoughts like that.”

“average discworld resident escapes death 3 times a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average discworld resident escapes death 0 times per year. Wizzard Rincewind, who lives on the run & escapes over 10,000 times each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Hello, new followers! Nice to see you. Do consider downloading the podcast, you don't necessarily need to start from the beginning, cos it's Discworld. We don't necessarily talk about the problems of modern Britain in every episode, but it comes up a fair bit. Otherwise we mostly keep it light.

It is the #Glorious25th and I'm currently editing our episode on the 25th Discworld novel, The Truth. Coming soon to all good podcatchers. The Thief of Time episode has been recorded. One of us is reading The Last Hero.

THE GLORIOUS 25TH. Where we remember the sacrifice of John Keel and others lost at the barricades of Treacle Mine Road. Time to re-read Terry Pratchett’s Night Watch, one of his finest works. I love my Penguin Modern Classics annotated edition 😍 (And Happy Towel Day too, Hitchhikers!) #Booksky 💙📚

Gah! What? Stopped clock and all that. The second part of our The Fifth Elephant episode has over 10 minutes talking about British transphobia. Because seeing someone so full of bigoted hatred that they'd ally with fascists to tear down an institution that benefits them is the mood music here rn.

Micah@rincewind.run

helen lewis has an article in the atlantic today begging everyone to read discworld and I am going to suggest she start by rereading monstrous regiment and think about how that might apply to trans issues

We did our first 2-part episode for The Fifth Elephant (which is not usually listed as a Discworld highlight), and a lot of that was talking about dwarves, especially Cheery - and I don't think we even mentioned this specific bit. There was also stuff about UK transphobia, which takes a while.
