Saddam would have been embarrassed by this.

Trump: “Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever been hit before. THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT, HOWEVER, BECAUSE IF THEY DO, WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE! Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J TRUMP”

Why the hell is IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT tossing tear gas around in a major city?

Watch the woman with a little girl in her lap running from this chaos around 0:09 second mark. I really cannot believe this is happening in America. 🥲

So, since we're not going to be the club for NATO anymore, when does the military budget get cut? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Mark Chadbourn@chadbourn.bsky.social

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski: “The European Union’s economy is nine to ten times larger than Russia’s. “We fought Russia successfully before the United States even existed — so we should be capable of doing it today.”

NATO Chief Rutte: "We need to be ready. Russia has brought war back to Europe, and we must be prepared for the scale of war our grandparents and great-grandparents endured."

The misinformation is stunning. The Senate just nuked filibuster rules to push through Trump judge appointments. Then again, it's John Thune, who will literally repeat any talking point he's told to...

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Thune: "If the Democrats had won the majority, they probably would've tried to nuke the filibuster. And then you'd have four new senators from Puerto Rico and DC, you'd have a packed Supreme Court, you'd have abortion on demand ... "

I’m concerned that people won’t appreciate how big a line is being crossed here. Texas is suspending basic Constitutional freedoms for opposition lawmakers. This isn’t dipping your toe in the authoritarian waters, it’s diving head first into the deep end. This is big league authoritarianism.

Trump has done a lot of authoritarian things this year and IMO none of them is as authoritarian as restricting opposition legislators’ right to travel freely.

Of course.

BIG UPDATE: The new changes in the Senate version of BBB that will cut funding for Medicaid do not apply to Medicaid non-expansion states, per sources familiar. In those 10 states (WI, WY, KS, TX, TN, MS, AL, GA, SC, FL), provider taxes and state-directed payments will be frozen at current levels.

This is actually one of the better plans I've seen. Make sure they post the articles to local social media like NextDoor, too.

Jon Walker@jonwalkerpdx.bsky.social

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.

I expect none of this to happen, but it should.

And again, they were about 15-20 times as large as the April 2009 Tea Party protests, so I'll sit back and wait for 15-20 times as many stories from political pundits explaining that this was a decisive rebuke to the sitting president that Changes Everything.

An old man doesn't need a gold plated toilet. He could be very happy with a regular toilet

Maybe he should have framed it as "do you believe YOUR nursing home should have a nurse available?" Then Oz might have understood it. He can't imagine money being spent on the ciphers that ordinary people are to him. Fuckin' thanks, Oprah.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

WYDEN: Do you believe in a nursing home there should be a registered nurse available around the clock? DR OZ: As you know, that's a complicated question WYDEN: No it's not. We need a nurse in a nursing home. Not too complicated.

Look, if we've learned anything this spring it's that any resistance is token if the Democratic part of the Senate is involved.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

As he faces Senate confirmation, remember that Dr. Oz: -Pushed Medicare privatization plans on his show -Owns ~$600k in stock in private insurers -Has ties to pyramid scheme companies that promote fake medical cures His main qualification to oversee CMS is loyalty to Trump.

The Senate siding with the people that support the rich? NEVER!

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@aoc.bsky.social

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

Yes, Putin doesn't get nearly enough of Ukraine in the current deal. Trump will get right on that.

Reuters@reuters.com

President Vladimir Putin said that Russia supported a US proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine in principle, but sought a number of clarifications and conditions that appeared to rule out a quick end to the fighting reut.rs/41Mnb5L

Pretty sure AI weather forecasts are the next step, since they have to sell that trash to someone. This actually defies understanding, but I should be used to that by now

Funny how no one mentions what law she's violating. Apprising people of their rights isn't illegal, last I checked. Homan will probably try to thug her, though, because...he's a thug.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Rick Scott on AOC: "It sure seems like she's violating the law ... if she's done something wrong, I hope Tom Homan does his job and prosecutes her to the full extent of the law."

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

This is a terrible thing, it didn’t have to happen, and it is profoundly sad that we are going to see more of it.

You're giving them too much credit - it's not lack of courage, it's tacet approval.

Elizabeth Bear@matociquala.bsky.social

Let's be perfectly clear here: the people who could actually stop the administrative coup of the U.S. government are any given half dozen Republican senators and representatives, if they had any courage at all.

Wow, that's gonna hurt when the bubble pops.

So this is a really weird interview on many different levels. But one thing I'd really start worrying about is that the CEO of Microsoft is saying that there "will be overbuild" of compute for AI. Good stuff!

As someone flying to Japan next month, this concerns me a bit.
