The expectation is to introduce sufficient defects into your creative process to authenticate your humanity.
I won't be doing that.
Writing is not a compliance regime.
Nobody becomes a writer because they dream of maintaining a forensic chain of custody for their imagination.
I woke to news Democrats barely hold their lead.
Skinny-dipping in fascism, neighbors being dragged from their cars, government corruption laughed at in congressional hearings, the president bleats, "shut up, piggy" as he bombs kids while gas reaches $7 a gallon.
And folks still don't vote.
I can't tell you what to do.
It is clear, I don't have the good sense to avoid the news even as it stresses me out to see the venal corruption and criminality at every level of government and corporate power.
But if you don't vote, if you don't participate, oppression is on the menu for decades.
I understand why you might not want to be bothered.
Voting's been made a burden, INTENTIONALLY. Longer lines, federal agents standing in places they shouldn't, votes being altered, tampered with, stolen in the mail, all with the tacit approval of the president.
DON'T YOU DARE LOOK AWAY! RESIST!

We have constructed a vocabulary that praises people for surviving conditions we ought to be questioning.
We call them resilient. Resourceful. Hardworking. Dedicated. Indispensable.
But those descriptions conceal an uncomfortable question: Why must ordinary survival demand extraordinary endurance?
I'm tired, y'all. Bone weary. I watch the news in horror. Everyday.
I feel the cruelty taking everything that matters. They complain about immigrants and then steal from the future out of fear.
The thieves are the same people telling you there is a problem only they can solve. With your money.

I spent the day in the ER yesterday. Unexpected. Unavoidable.
People will be angry because I was not available to them. They don't care why I wasn't there.
Political attention has an economic cost. Democracy often assumes its citizens can afford to pay it.
Sometimes you can't do more with less.
A society that continuously demands resilience without providing the resources necessary to recover is not creating stronger people.
It is consuming them. Watching them die from hunger, stress, from the tidal erosion these societal shockwaves produce.
And eventually, there are no reserves left.

If you hadn't heard: In 2018, Bannon told Michael Lewis: "The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood the zone with shit."
The real battle lies between #EconomicPrecarity and #PoliticalSaturation.
My mother said it best: "Folks are too poor to pay attention."
For you political folks this means:
Economic precarity reduces the capacity for political attention. Political saturation increases the cost of maintaining that attention.
Staying alive, dodging ICE, getting healthcare, finding a job, keeping one, trumps watching today's latest political fuckery.

People still possess the right to protest. They just cannot afford to be detained for two weeks.
They have the right to organize, but who has time?
They have the right to remain informed. They just cannot endure another evening absorbing disasters over which they feel they have no control.
WTF?
I get his point. I really do. I don't like it, but I get it.
Why do we expect people living in a state of perpetual personal emergency to respond effectively to a perpetual national emergency?
Steve Bannon's tactic for national domination has borne fruit. "Flood the zone" till folks just give up.

He says to me: What If you're someone who wakes behind the curve.
Your pay sucks, rent's rising, healthcare's unaffordable and no matter what you literally can't afford to have a heart attack or stroke.
The holidays are approaching and you are BROKE as hell.
What do you do?
What can you do?
You hesitate to turn on the news to another outrage:
The President choosing our enemies over our allies. Watching the world's wealthiest asshole hold a nation hostage from space, while a constitutional confrontation, another act of public cruelty or more economic uncertainty looms...

A friend suggest people are tired.
Unable to overcome the multiple shocks to the system.
Shocks designed to demean, undermine and overwhelm them, leaving folks apathetic to it all because if they aren't seen a travesty occur right next to them, they don't have time, they're trying to keep a job...
NOT TO MENTION HOW MANY were MURDERED in our streets, BY ICE....ILLEGAL ARRESTS, and the harassment and physical abuse! ALL ICE agents SHOULD BE PROSECUTED, who were involved in those incidents,,,,NO ONE, IS ABOVE THE LAW!
Add to that ๐๐ป the billions lost in revenue from those deported and their families. Plus the jobs lost and vehicles not sold as well as housing unsold or vacated.
Sixty deaths in custody anywhere else would mean hearings, firings, and a shuttered program. Here the answer is a bigger budget. Reward the body count, call it deterrence, and wait for number 61.
60 people have now died in ICE custody since Trump's return to office.
Our country is set to spend $268 BILLION on mass deportations and detentions through the end of Trump's term.
Instead of death and cruelty, imagine what we could have invested that money in instead?
Walter Koenig died on October 25, 2026, at the age of 90.
He died of natural causes at his North Hollywood home, surrounded by his daughter and niece.
It's another enormous loss to the original Star Trek generation.
Koenig joined the Enterprise in 1967, during the show's second season.
And Koenig had another memorable science-fiction role: Alfred Bester in Babylon 5, the calculating, frighteningly self-assured Psi Cop. Quite a contrast to the enthusiastic young navigator of the Enterprise.
Koenig called playing Bester "one of the best, most satisfying experiences he ever had."
George Takei, his friend of nearly sixty years, remembered him as a writer, teacher, thoughtful man, and loyal friend. Takei also recalled that Koenig had been his best man at his wedding in 2008.

Chekov was more than comic relief with a Russian accent.
During the Cold War, he represented Gene Roddenberry's conviction that humanity might eventually outgrow its divisions sufficiently to explore the universe together.

Dengue is spreading in Florida, and the mosquitoes that carry it now live as far north as Virginia.
As a result, the CDC has activated a Level 3 emergency response for dengue in Florida, its eighth emergency activation of 2026.
"The Romans occupied England from the 1st to the 5th century, so anyone of Roman descent has a historical claim to the land."
It's one of the best sketches I've ever seen, it is so accurate and highlights the situation in Palestine.
Empathy is foundational to being human. Without empathy, you're incomplete. Without empathy, a person is a psychopath-sociopath (ASPD).
Empathy is *required* in order to experience love. In the absence of empathy, any behavior that at first glance, appears to be love โย is merely parroted behavior.
New in PN: In defense of empathy
"Being aware of other peopleโs feelings, sensitive to them, and able to put yourself in another personโs shoes is pretty much essential for humans to function as a community. But the current conservative project has zero room for that sort of thing."

Mass Effect has been my absolute favorite game franchise for decades now and there was nothing more gutting than learning the next game I had been so patiently waiting for was gutted and the team working on it broken apart. I would love nothing more than to #SaveMassEffect
--Releases more of franchise. Fanbase gets mad at discrepencies.
--AAA dev closes "niche division" dev studio. Usually cites consolidation & cost savings.
It's almost always a way to either:
A: eliminate competition
B: grab ahold of a major title from a competitor
or C: acquire trademarks
It's the current vicious cycle of AAA game devs:
--Smaller Studio makes succcessful games, builds fanbase
--AAA Game dev buys smaller dev out. converts it into separate "niche division"

I visited MLK Community Hospital in South LA, the only safety-net hospital serving poor patients in the area.
The ER was built for 25,000 patients a year; it gets 120,000.
I saw patients getting treated in the gift shop, the chapel, in tents, even outdoors. And this is before the Medicaid cuts.
