Those who opposed removal of Confederate monuments, citing erasure of history, should have no problem with a future National Park site at Alligator Alcatraz. Americans need to learn about the human rights violations and how GOP politicians reveled in the prison’s cruelty.

NEW: DHS's Inspector General releases a scathing report about the Everglades detention camp known as "Alligator Alcatraz." The OIG finds that the now-closed camp, violated multiple ICE standards. The OIG also confirms detainees were punished with placement in a metal cage in the Florida heat.🧵

Glad for any wins! ADA said they’d do an investigative report. My guess is that someone in ADA panicked and feared retaliation from the GOP Administration. What organizations need to understand is that giving into bullying by this regime leads to further bullying. @amdiabetesassn.bsky.social

Misplaced priorities: The House voted today, 6/4/26, to cut $141 million in food aid (WIC) for children and pregnant mothers during a time of rising food costs. This aid helps families afford fruit, vegetables, milk, eggs, and other nutritious foods. #Health #Nutrition No paywall: wapo.st/4g7mKf0

It is so important to connect our local farmers with the folks who need food. At a time when families are struggling with grocery costs, House Republicans are bringing a bill to the floor that fails to fully fund WIC fruit and vegetable benefits.

It’s truly astonishing to see how comprehensively the US government is tearing down every part of the system that has made it up until now a world-leading power in science, research, and technological development. The entire world will suffer from this wanton destruction.

This is an incredibly dangerous and radical policy decision reflects the Trump Administration’s allegiance with gun sellers rather than to the safety of the public. If not reversed, it will facilitate illegal gun trafficking that will be more guns in the hands of dangerous individuals.

Earlier this year, the Trump Administration claimed a century-old law that bans handguns in the mail was unconstitutional. Now, the US Postal Service is following Trump’s orders — proposing a new rule to let handguns flow through the postal system for the first time in 100 years. etwn.us/3Qc3pyF

This is a shocking lack of empathy. Messages about patriotism sure would have been helpful during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of lives could have been saved if Trump and other GOP politicians had said: “Let’s be patriots and wear masks and gather outdoors and get vaccinated.”

We need improved flu vaccines that can adapt to variants more nimbly, but due to RFK Jr.’s unscientific animus toward mRNA vaccines, FDA refused to review Moderna’s new mRNA flu vaccine, altho FDA previously approved the trial design. Shame on Drs. Makary and Prasad, who claim to be pro-science.
