This, exactly. What is worth spending time and attention on? What would you never offload, even if you could? (Don't answer here. Answer for yourselves! And then act accordingly!)

This sort of AI assistant technology will only be destructive unless and until the people developing it can actually grapple with these sorts of questions because they are at the heart of everything. What is worth doing with this one life? www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/s...

Also I was pondering, on this rewatch, how all the priests are clearly in the priesthood for something other than god. To escape their fear of uncertainty and waning influence (Merrin) or their sexuality and desires (Dyer) or their guilt and anger and overactive empathy (Karras)

it’s time for my annual meditation on how gorgeously sad Jason Miller is as Father Karras in The Exorcist, like just psychologically damaging levels of magnetic torment

Okay final Exorcist thought that is not revolutionary—I love all the layers of evil this film plays with. Politics, Hollywood, family trauma , the Holocaust, the health care system, bureaucratic red tape that society forces you to navigate when you're in crisis, poverty, addiction, the law ...

I know this is not the most important thing in the world right now, but it does feel sad that the ability to comfortable go somewhere as a family somewhere on an airplane has been totally taken away from most Americans thanks to how expensive and awful air travel is now

Maybe it’s the pet grief talking, but after teaching Out of the Past I have become convinced that young Robert Mitchum was among the most beautiful men to have walked the earth

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Getting so many years with this beautiful creature was a gift. He was with us in seven residences, for three kids, survived one coyote attack, and watched countless fucked up movies with us on the couch. I am having trouble walking around the house without him following me.

We said goodbye to this guy today. His name was Albee. He made it a few days shy of 17 years old. I posted this the day we found out it was his time. We gave him a great weekend of treats, grass lawns, and chicken. He was a gift. He lived a great life. I will miss him forever. Forever.

I am dealing with some personal stuff AND parenting three kids so going to see any movies these past few weeks have been hard … and I have never been so mad to not be able to go to the movies! Does this mean … the movies are back? (Even if one of the ones I want to see in a theater is from the 70s?)

Does anyone else have the sports superstition where if you have the game on but you have to run out for a quick errand or something, you believe you have to LEAVE the game on your TV while you’re out or else you’ll lose? Or is this just my neurosis?

a tip for being in your 40s is that I think everyone should make a friend who is 80, this has happened to me recently and it is somehow the perfect way to gain perspective amid the noise of 40-something life

When I did my poetry PhD I had a professor who would just read us Anne Carson bits out loud and tell us to write them down. I learned so much about writing and poetry and words and thinking.

I mean we also did other stuff, like sit around staring at each other while the professor went to look for a pencil and a poem he thought he’d left on his desk that he wanted to share with us, returning after 30 minutes just to tell us he’d found the poem but it had been ripped up.

my sexuality is postseason Kiké

Kiké Hernández is the only player in MLB history to have at least 10.0% of his career homers (reg & post) come in the postseason (min. 100 total homers). 🐦 https://x.com/OptaSTATS/status/2107627582078239120

4yo has claimed turning on Halloween decorations as his “leadership job” and I really want to know how I can get such a sweet deal because my leadership jobs do not feel as fun

Yes I definitely think it’s worth 90% of my mental energy as a teacher to ponder how to help students understand how to use this very complex and societally important tool

was the joy of my life to write about my queen diane lane in UNFAITHFUL and UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN for @brightwalldarkroom.com. two movies about what it’s like to be a woman in your late 30s, the impulse to tear it all down, and the joy of building it back up instead 🖤

brightwalldarkroom.comTwo Diane Lanes at Midlife: Unfaithful & Under the Tuscan SunI am soon to be 38: the age when women disappear from movies. But once upon a time they did make movies about us, and they starred Diane Lane.

Putting up Halloween decorations when it’s 100 degrees outside, congrats America, you’ve achieved the horror of your dreams

just got told by a former student currently at an exclusive university that I do “elite” discussion board work and none of his professors have come close so I’m gonna put that in my pocket for a self-doubt day

Okay I guess I’m just a Big Sleep poster now (though next week I’ll be moving on to Double Indemnity) but my class is having its final discussion about the book tomorrow & man the second to last paragraph is just so fucking fantastic. Pardon my almost-correct Hamlet annotations.

This is a motherfucking paragraph
