Today is a fifth anniversary of 'mini.nvim'! And as it happens, third anniversary of 'mini.pick' and first one of MiniMax! Here is a blog post with my reflections about this five year period: nvim-mini.org/blog/2026-10... . It also shows new "main" plugin color scheme and logos. Time flies.

'mini.nvim' now has a module for improved statuscolumn (area with line numbers, signs, fold indicators): 'mini.statuscolumn'. Release blog post: nvim-mini.org/blog/2026-08... #neovim
'mini.nvim' got 0.18.0 release: new featureful module to ask user for input, 'mini.deps' development freeze, 'mini.files' LSP integration, and a lot of small updates to existing modules. What a good way to celebrate June solstice! Release blog post: nvim-mini.org/blog/2026-06...
I am happy to announce the release of 'mini.input' - a module of 'mini.nvim' that makes asking for user input both more functional and visually pleasant. 'mini.nvim' now crossed two milestones: 45+ modules and 5000+ tests. Release blog post: nvim-mini.org/blog/2026-06...

That's a big release with a lot of awesome features. Check it out and update!
#neovim version 0.12.0 is out! Almost exactly a year of hard work since 0.11.0. Huge thanks to everyone who worked on it, as well as to all Neovim users! Release: github.com/neovim/neovi... News: github.com/neovim/neovi... Changelog: github.com/neovim/neovi... Here are top 10 most liked features:
This was a surprisingly quick and rewarding side quest. About 72 hours from the idea of a Lua mockup to merging tested C code.
#neovim Development News The 0.12 version will have a fancy intro screen. Beyond showcasing the logo, it visually enhances some parts for better readability. Special highlighting works in any color scheme. PR: - github.com/neovim/neovi...

One of the core maintainers @echasnovski.com , and the author of `mini.nvim` just published this superb explainer of vim.pack with a handy migration guide. Incredible post for all Neovim users, worth reading before the upcoming release of @neovim.io 0.12. echasnovski.com/blog/2026-03... #neovim

Tempted by a new Neovim setup? @echasnovski.com MiniMax offers a stable foundation you control from the start. Not a distro, but a powerful base for your own config. Ideal for new users or those avoiding complex migrations. #Neovim #MiniMax #Vim #Editor #Programming
For almost a year developing `vim.pack` (Neovim>=0.12 built-in plugin manager) has been one of my top open source priorities. With #neovim 0.12 release around the corner, I decided to make a comprehensive guide about how `vim.pack` works and how to use it. echasnovski.com/blog/2026-03...
It also comes together with a video demo for visual learners and people who want to see vim.pack in action. youtu.be/J1r0vrqOMJo
Thanks to @bfredl.bsky.social casting his magic, some benchmarks had to be redone to show different (better) performance. So the post has been updated. TL;DR for those who read the original: there is now no practical difference in performance of using one vs many `vim.pack.add()` calls.
For the longest time I was curious to measure the exact impact of how number of loaded #neovim plugins affects performance. So I finally did it: echasnovski.com/blog/2026-01...
MiniMax now uses `vim.pack` on Neovim>=0.12 and usable on Neovim=0.10. This is a more exciting news than it might look, because it is the first step towards MINI adapting `vim.pack` as the plugin manager. 'mini.deps' will be retired soon-ish after Neovim 0.12 release. nvim-mini.org/blog/2026-02...

Thanks for taking your time to arrange the interview, @linkarzu.bsky.social! We talked about Neovim, mini.nvim, MiniMax, Linux, terminals, and some other topics. Check it out. It is long (3+ hours), but it was fun to do. Hopefully also fun to watch/listen.

That's a very good news for me. Thank you for spreading the word! I want to tell Bluesky a small story about @jasonlong.me. He is the original author of the Neovim logo. I am no artist, so when it was time for 'mini.nvim' to get one, I emailed him to ask if he is up for help.
I've been using @echasnovski.com's MiniMax #neovim setup recently and it's great. I appreciate the consistency across the mini.nvim plugins and how well tested everything is. I'm still adapting after years of LazyVim, but everything feels lean and fast. nvim-mini.org/MiniMax/
I am really grateful for the opportunity to work on vim.pack this year. It is mostly ready and I am very proud of the result. Thank you Neovim team for the trust!
Happy New Year, Neovim enjoyers! Let 2026 bring more "out of the box" experience and faster startup time for you! As last year, here is a thread with #neovim development stats in 2025.

After whopping 7 months since the latest one, 'mini.nvim' got a new 0.17.0 release. It contains one new module ('mini.cmdline') and many small improvements for existing ones. Check out the release blog post: nvim-mini.org/blog/2025-12...
After about 7 months, 'mini.nvim' gets a new module: 'mini.cmdline'. It contains command line tweaks that'll make #neovim usage a bit better: autocompletion, autocorrection, and autopeek of command range (like `:10` or `:10,20sort`). Link to a releases blog post: nvim-mini.org/blog/2025-12...

I am very happy to announce the release of MiniMax - Neovim config example(s) that is primarily based on MINI/mini.nvim. The plan was to wait until when 'mini.statuscolumn' and 'mini.terminals' are implemented, but decided to just do it now. Here is the release post: nvim-mini.org/blog/2025-10...
I am very pleased to announce that MINI/mini.nvim project finally has its own site: nvim-mini.org . Having to link to txt Neovim help files on GitHub for documentation is mildly inhumane towards the users 😅 But no more! More details here: nvim-mini.org/blog/2025-10...

Finally decided to switch to a custom domain handle. It is now @echasnovski.com instead of a previous @echasnovski.bsky.social.
After much deliberation, contemplating, overanalyzing, preparation, overanalyzing (yes, again), and finally execution I transferred 'mini.nvim' plugin to the separate GitHub organization. I hope this will improve long term stability of the project. More details here: github.com/nvim-mini/mi....
Thanks to caring and compassionate redditors, the account is now unsuspended. I'd also like to thank @lukas.famichiki.jp.ap.brid.gy for doing huge work of manually approving all my previous posts before knowing that suspension would be lifted. This probably helped the case, really.
PSA: my Reddit account (same as Bluesky handle) has been suspended for 11 days now. All its past content (mostly #neovim posts + comments) is currently hidden by Reddit filters. It was due to a false positive inauthentic activity detection. I reset the password, but account is still shadow banned.

neovim's built-in "treesitter support" is a cool feature that has been around for a while now. i didn't found many resources that explain what is, so i wrote something vonheikemen.github.io/learn-nvim/f... #neovim

It was a long road to get here, but we made it 🎉 Thanks @neovim.io core team for allowing me to do this! There are still a lot of things to do, but we'll approach them one small step at a time.
#neovim Development News The 0.12 version will have minimal built-in plugin manager. It is still a work in progress, so use it carefully (if you use Nightly builds) and expect breaking changes without notice. PR: - github.com/neovim/neovi...
After a long pause, there is a new 'mini.nvim' module - 'mini.keymap'. It provides the means to create some special mappings: multi-step actions (like "smart" Tab/S-Tab/CR/BS) and combos (more general "better escape" like behavior). #neovim See more details at github.com/echasnovski/... Demo:

I've been meaning to get vim-surround configured back into my new (neo)vim setup, but then found that there was mini.surround, part of mini.nvim from @echasnovski.bsky.social and all I had to do was give it life. Works great, thanks! https://github.com/echasnovski/mini.surround #Neovim
