Here's something unusual: a polychaete larva with two tails? One episphere, three eyes instead of four, and two perfectly formed trunks. But alas, no mouth, so it can't feed. Its sibs have already metamorphosed. Spiralian dev biologists: how is this even possible?

I found these at an orangutan sanctuary and I’m not ashamed to say I spent about three minutes looking at the ape and the rest of my time watching these glorious myriapods trundle about

Anything calcareous sponges and humans have in common? Both use carbonic anhydrase for biocalcite production, acting as building block for calcareous sponge spicules and bioseeds during mammalian hydroxyapatite formation. Purse sponge from the N Adriatic Sea. #spongeThursday

An amazing #deepsea Saccocalyx glass sponge! observed by #Okeanos from Salmon Bank in the North Pacific #spongeThursday Easily 1 to 2 m tall!

An ophiacanthid? brittle star hanging on to its glass sponge friend! Possibly taking advantage of all those sharp needle-like spicules! #spongeThusday #Okeanos 2016 Salmon Bank in the North Pacific!

OH NEAT! A dead euplectellid glass sponge makes a COOL tunnel o' brittle stars and a hanging point for this feather star! SPONGE TUNNEL for #SPONGETHURSDAY from Salmon Bank #okeanos 2016

The first captive bred males of Euryurus orestes and Euryurus mcclurkini appeared today! These might be photos of the same individual except, as usual for millipedes, differences in the genitalia, significant enough that prior to molecular revision E. mcclurkini occupied a different genus, Auturus.
