"when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything"
This is superb reporting by BBC News’ Nick Marsh on spikes in insider trading ahead of Trump’s Truth Social pronouncements and weirdly accurate predictions on the betting market Polymarket. Well worth a read. “The insider trading suspicions looming over Trump's presidency”
as the saying goes, everything he touches turns to shit. so let's repurpose that 💩 and compost it into a green energy revolution
It’s a super weird thing but thus far in 2026 the person most directly responsible for shifting the entire world on #EnergyTransition is Donald Trump, entirely against his own wishes. He’s an anti-genius

this nyc inauguration of mayor mamdani is a shining exemplar of what handing over the reigns to a new generation looks like. time for the democratic party to get with the program and give the american electorate something to believe in. 'it's a new day' ---> www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wai6...

‘we’re going to kill people’ - well gosh darn it, how many people does a guy have to kill before they’ll give him a Nobel Peace Prize already?!?
Trump: "I don't think we're going to necessarily ask for a declaration of war. I think we're just going to kill people that are bringing drugs into our country. We're going to kill them. They're going to be like, dead."
yay! now do AI
Historic win for nature and climate! Today, at the IUCN World Conservation Congress, the world’s largest environmental network of governments, civil society, and Indigenous Peoples voted to recognise fossil fuels as a root cause of the biodiversity and climate crises for the first time in history.
this is so cool

soooo, come midterm elections next year, it’s now legal for the current gov regime to racially profile ANY VOTER who looks ‘not white’, snatch em up in unmarked vans whilst wearing masks w/ no warrant or due process & ship them off to a gulag in a foreign country. - SCOTUS says it’s A-OK, I say WTF
BREAKING: By an apparent 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court halts an injunction that had prevented immigration agents from racially profiling Latinos in central California. Sotomayor, dissenting, says the decision is "unconscionably irreconcilable with our nation's constitutional guarantees."

A thought experiment. What if the world's climate policy for the next few years was: flood the planet with cheap or free solar panels? billmckibben.substack.com/p/a-modest-p...
this is what tikkun olam looks like (the jewish tenet of living life so as to benefit the world). @katmabu.bsky.social is showing us what it looks like. as james baldwin so perfectly said: “The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe.
Abughazaleh: I am from one of those families. I do not want Israeli children to live in fear. And I don't want gazan children to starve to death. And there is no enemy of either state that could want me to wish that or excuse the starvation of children. It is that simple.

This historic decision could pave the way for climate reparations and human rights protections that are long overdue, as well as build a stronger case for big polluters to pay up for the damage they have caused! www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/7/...

"omni american born of beats and blood, the concert of the sun unplugged" - saul williams, 'om nia merican' --> www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gq0...
the most ironic and shakespearian twist is that building as much clean energy as possible as fast as possible - is the most 'america first' thing this country could do, especially if one's main goals are world domination and american exceptionalism (whatever the fuck this bullshit is)
"Build as much clean energy as possible as fast as possible" should be our No. 1 national priority in the coming decade. All our national resources should be bent to the task. The president should talk about it every week in a national address. It should be the moon shot X100.

alarming UN Women report. equally startling, is that the report doesn't state that it's due to US funding cuts in global aid. not til page 5 in survey methods do they state the key survey question of if US funding cuts are impacting their org. then it appears at the end in key findings, listed first
Alarming news from latest UN Women report: Half of women’s organizations helping women and girls in humanitarian crisis zones may shut down in 6 months due to the drastic global aid cuts. If these organizations vanish, so will vital lifelines for millions of vulnerable women & girls.
there may not be a specific name, but there was one brilliant beyond words comedian who nailed it decades ago, George Carlin: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJ4S...
A familiar genre: an American goes abroad to a country that's actually civilized, finds all kinds of nice things, and wonders, "why can't *we* have nice things?" Is there a specific name for this kind of melancholy?

dreaming of a world where every canal has a solar array and where every walkway has smart flooring technology that transforms footsteps into electrical energy (a la Pavegen), and every aspect of our modern world is converted from waste into something magical and regenerative. if not now, then when?
