the pumping dilemna: there are a sequence of s people tied to a railroad track, s drawn from regular language L. if s is big enough, you can pull a lever l, you can split s into subsequences x y z, such that the trolley only hits y, the subsequence x z is still in L.

Real analysis paralysis (where someone is overthinking how to prove a theorem) when fake analysis paralysis walks in (the kind that gets into a spiral after disrespecting Bolzano-Weierstrass)

I am at least *thinking* about my pure math baby again

I've been neglecting pure math like an absent parent. But TCS is not my only child. I try to love them both equally, but parenting is hard.

If you are androgynous and the "I can always tell" people are scanning you from tip-to-toe repeatedly, don't worry! Their genital-guessing language is recursively enumerable but not recursive. You are the input that makes their Turing-machine loop forever.

In Bangladesh, the word for those motorized three-wheeler rickshaw-like vehicles is "CNG". Whenever I see it in written form, I read "GNC" and get too excited about having found a mention of gender non-conformity in an unexpected, especially local context. 😭

When you come out alive after 3 days of fever followed by a single day of relief followed by 4 days of being bedridden due to the severe side effects of new medication followed by another day of relief followed by two more days of intense headaches

Some people giving advice be like ``` fn on_depression() { stop_being_depressed(); } ``` And what does `stop_being_depressed` do you ask? ``` fn stop_being_depressed() { on_depression(); } ```

I strive to always understand and explain why a given bug fix works, because an incomplete understanding of the underlying system can be a greater threat to an organization than the bug itself

I have a reputation of being serious among some people. And even when I'm joking, I get read as serious thanks to their confirmation bias, due to which they never see any evidence to the contrary.

Letting my intrusive thoughts reign supreme and finally clicking a button assuming that it would show a confirmation pop-up, and then being surprised that it actually just performed some destructive action immediately.

I'm prototyping one and my least favorite part of it is detecting grammars that shouldn't be worked with, like those with left-recursion and other cases of non-terminals with productions that never terminate, and other properties not suitable for my chosen type of parser.

Feeling an urge to write my own stupid parser generator for no reason. Would be fun if I actually do it, because anything even remotely to do with automata is automatically fun, trust me.

If someone publicly changes their mind, avoid these phrases: “You should have seen this coming.” “How could you have been so stupid?” “I told you so.” “You’re too late.” They raise the psychological cost for the next person who’s considering doing the same.

Put forth a basic state machine for the battle system. So far, it is possible to attack and deal damage, along with getting attacked and being damaged. Yes, the text updates and HP & lvl indicators aren't there yet. I'm actually depressed so it all took me an entire 3 hours. #gamedev #raylib

I should mention that I didn't author the graphics myself. It's from Thundaga's Pokemon Essentials, which seems to be a highly comprehensive asset pack for making Pokemon fangames especially in RPG Maker. I myself am just using Raylib in C++.

Tall grass is in. No fancy anim for the grass cell the character is over, not an interesting direction for me. Programming random encounters and a battle system is next. #gamedev #indiedev #raylib #pokemon

Laid down the skeleton for a battle screen. It opens up if you move through tall grass enough. (There is a 1/10 chance of encounter for every tall grass cell you are over) Yes, the UI isn't fancy or even that good. I said "skeleton". #gamedev #indiedev #raylib #pokemon

"Ahh, finally. Something to walk on." I have constructed tilemaps but it currently requires me to specify every single tile by its tileset index, which is painstaking. Will figure something out. #gamedev #indiedev #raylib #pokemon

*Will MAYBE figure something out LATER. I'm not going to design some expansive world filled with wonder, just a small area to walk and encounter random mons in. (If you're confused about what the game is even supposed to be, don't worry. I'm not fretting over that myself)

I've written too many parsers in the last few months, and almost all of that in Rust. It's time for me to do something different... like writing a parser in C++! That would definitely be totally different! Besides, who doesn't love to shoot themselves in their foot?
