Notice how Tommy wasn't punched in the face and dragged out of El-Sayed's political event.....

Folks here on BlueSky already know, but everyone with accounts on the billionaire-owned platforms should start encouraging people to leave them for open source ones like this one, Mastodon, and Nostr.

In the age before vaccines, 15%-20% of kids didn't make age 5 due to diseases that are now vaccine preventable. Anti-vaxxers are not just idiots, they are a scourge on the nation.

At least 6 babies in Pennsylvania have been born infected with measles.

Trading healthier lung development in kids for a millionaire's selfish and self-serving opinion was definitely a good thing.

By definition, cities are places for people. The best cities are walking cities. The WAR ON WALKING is anti-city, and an attack on our future life on earth.

Urban Truth Collective@urbantruth.bsky.social

No matter what they claim, the REAL “war” that’s been going on in our cities has been a WAR ON WALKING. And it’s been going on for a century. #UrbanTruth

Per federal data, transportation is a primary driver of financial volatility for American households. It's the 2nd-largest household expense after housing. The avg annual household spends $13,318/yr or 17.0% of HH spending. It's 30% for the poorest households. LEGALIZE TRANSPORTATION FREEDOM!

We all know the urban greening Paris has been doing. But do we know what Warsaw Poland has been doing? Impressive. “Not so long ago, they were dominated by cars, concrete, & asphalt. Today, they're full of greenery, pedestrian-friendly, & better for the climate.” The New Center of Warsaw project.

There's a special place in hell for app developers who screw with a user interface for no good reason, causing us to waste our time troubleshooting, only to find it was the app development team behaving like dictators and making changes that create confusion without making their products better.

And this is why we call American traffic engineers professionally bankrupt.

"If you have followed the conversation about street safety lately, you would think the greatest threat to our community is a teenager on an e-bike. It isn’t. In 2023, drivers killed more than 1,100 pedestrians on California streets."

The unfortunate reality is that cities can no longer afford to continue to subsidize parking. When transportation policy at all levels makes everyone dependent upon driving, this is the kind of mess we get into.

When it the media going to stop sanitizing traffic violence?

Talk about bike infrastructure, and someone inevitably assumes the goal is to replace every car trip with a cycle. Nothing could be further from the truth. The goal is choice. Most people don’t want to use the same vehicle for every journey, just as they don’t use the same shoes for every occasion.🧵

Replying to @davidzipper.bsky.social

Every trip that occurs by bike instead of a car is a win for the planet. Full stop. Can a bike always replace a car? No, and no one is claiming it can.

Instead of forming a massive alliance against this absurd situation, pedestrians are pitted against cyclists, cyclists against scooter riders, ... Every day I become more disillusioned by just how deeply ingrained the “carbrain” is in all of us, even those of us without cars.

I'm a fan of Doug Gordon's War on Cars work. His response to my re-posting this with comments was to block me. It's his right to do so, but god forbid we bring science into subject as important as climate change. Again, I suggest that folks read the science compendium at soil4climate.org

Meat is not the problem we've been told. The whole idea that it is goes back to a 2006 UNFAO report that was retracted due to very faulty calculations and comparisons. It's not the cow, it's the how. Read Soil4Climate's science compendium: soil4climate.org

Is it time for the federal gov't to get out of the business of funding new lane miles? Considering we have been in diminishing returns with highway expansions for at least 3 decades, the answer is becoming obvious. When you can't maintain what you have, and people (cont'd...)

Anyone old enough to remember 9/11 knows many thousands of Americans got stranded when the aviation system shut down and we ran out of rental cars. "Whaddya mean there is no train to Columbus?!?!?" was overheard at Chicago Union Station. A robust rail system would've kept America moving.

🚝High-speed rail runs on electricity produced domestically. This makes HSR a national security issue 🚝🚌🚃🚲More high-quality travel options means more freedom: Freedom from car debt if you want. Freedom to leave the car keys at home if you want. Freedom to avoid flying hassles if you want.

Flights are being cut due to jet fuel shortages. Ticket prices on remaining flights are spiking. Millions of Americans are underwater on their car loans. Car loan debt surpassed student loan debt in 2023. We need high-speed rail. Here's why:

Transportation and land use are closely linked. This is part of Silicon Valley (I took this pic a few days ago). Designing everything around the car + all that exclusive R1 zoning is why there is a housing shortage here. It's also why virtually all of the cities (cont'd)

here are struggling to keep up with infrastructure maintenance. And, >1000 feet above all this, there was still an audible din of car traffic. This is the most financially unsustainable way the US could have chosen to develop.
