I found this stacked 4K UHD of DROP ZONE at a used store a while back and just checked it out for the first time in prolly 25 years. It’s still no POINT BREAK or DIE HARD, but is some kind of amalgamation of those.

I’m pretty into Yancy Butler as a screen presence. Gary Busey in bad guy mode is always a treat; especially when his character is named “Ty Moncrief”. Parker Lewis aka Corbin Nemec has a part! And of course King Of Clean Wesley Snipes is slick in the sparse fight scenes.

The narrative I’d believed was: Tim Lambesis hit rock bottom & hired a hit man to kill his wife & then went to prison, owned up to his mistakes, shed the lie that he was still a “Christian artist” & began anew as openly non religious but repentant of the guy he was before. Nope. Just a narcissist. 🤷‍♂️

This podcast just worked its way into my feed w/out me ever having heard of it before but man… guess the frontman for AS I LAY DYING is… even worse than I thought and even I knew that he had hired a hitman to kill his ex-wife. Huge bummer. Thought he’d confronted his demons. overcast.fm/+ABPJ5QLVU_I

Revisited MATRIX RESURRECTIONS. Only my second viewing. First since theaters. I still enjoy it and feel its ideas and its themes and its representation remain strong. But its action does remain weak in comparison to the others. I’m glad it exists and has a lot to say!

Also it’s really wild that “Dalia” never really existed bc I always thought of Dalia as the person I “knew” who MOST hated recasting and therefore hated this movie. I almost always think of whoever “Dalia” was when there’s a controversial or much discussed recasting.

The recasting in this movie mostly works and the players do their jobs, but Lawrence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving are simply SO iconic and deeply missed in this movie.

The Swarm sequence towards the end where Trinity & Neo get their big action sequence is pretty dope AND I realized that the big final “bomb run” sequence from Cregger’s RESIDENT EVIL simply HAS to have taken some inspiration from this. Very similar visuals and action dynamics.

Watched Kogonada’s ZI today as an FYC screener. Some resonance came together at the end but I didn’t click with it the way I wanted to. Caught BIG BOLD BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY a little late a while back but also didn’t love that one. Want to connect with another Kogonada project!

Just watched THE SIXTH SENSE for the first time in like a quarter century. First time as a Dad. Holy shit. That movie is so much more powerful and perfect than the bits it is remembered for. #TheSixthSense

I felt like I remembered the movie bc the big twists and scares were burned in my brain. But I basically sobbed through it when watched as a grown adult who is also a father. Toni Collette is the MVP in a stacked cast and one of the greatest mothers in cinematic history?!

Shot in my hometown of Wichita in the 1970s, unreleased until 1987, and now available on Blu-ray. It's super corny but also incredibly nostalgic for anyone who knows this city (and maybe even if you don't). #KingKungFu

cinapse.netThe City of Wichita Stars in KING KUNG FU, Available on Blu-ray - CinapseI first saw King Kung Fu at a hometown screening/reunion with its cast and crew, over 20 years ago. I had read about Wichita's unlikely genre movie long

Someone in the HBO post-finale video said “Lanterns are cops, John Stewart is a superhero”. That’s hitting me hard as absolutely the hero we need right now. Love the arcs of like every major character on this show. “I love you, too, Junior”. 🥹 #Lanterns

remarkable piece of journalism. really worth reading.

Mr. Dan Zak@mrdanzak.com

A Haitian man legally immigrated to Ohio, then was given an ankle monitor bc Trump withdrew his status. He threw himself in front of truck. The trucker, who voted for Trump, is haunted. “Pierre was doing what he was supposed to do. We did not do right by him.” www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

This is one of the most devastating pieces of journalism I’ve ever read.

Leah@leah.myatproto.social

An important story that must be shared. Print it out, paper the country with this story, we must all be like this trucker and confront our demons straight in the eye. Or else we will be doomed to repeat this hell.

MOTOR CITY: If there’s anyone meant to be the kooky, manic bad guy in a near-dialogue-free crime film it’s Ben Foster, and if anyone was gonna be the musclebound himbo who’s great at gun and punch eating his lunch it’s got to, GOT TO be Alan Ritchson.

"I’ve rarely seen anything nail more accurately how much filmmaking is an act of masochism. When we love film, we tend to focus on the magical ones. But this film manages to make us think about a failure and then question what exactly failure means."

Please note there is very little chance you will love this like I did. I was so moved by it I forgot to take a swipe at Christopher Nolan’s soullessness. boxd.it/gBmhuR
