We were very grateful for how much Rachelle and her husband Peter put themselves out to help us see more of Montreal, driving from their nearby Dorval community, while she dealt with a leg injury and Peter was somewhat under the weather. We got to see much more of the city as a result.

... apparently. Our friend died after her suspicions about COVID vaccinations made her delay getting one when she actually qualified to get it early. The week she finally made an appointment to get the vaccine, she was hospitalized and then died of the virus.

Beyond individual issues of people radicalized by social media, especially on FB, the film implies that the platform had a direct influence over such phenomena as the US Capitol insurrection (Jan6/21.) I am thinking about Alberta's separation referendum and the AI or offshore FB accts weighing in.

I had an interesting conversation after the film with a woman seated nearby who said she 'lost' 3 close friends to conspiracy theories promoted on Facebook. That didn't happen to Gord and I but an acquaintance of ours was sctually lost, who gleaned her news from FB, as do 45% of Americans... ⬇️

I keep wondering how much average Americans know about the cruelty being carried out in their name, supposedly to make the country safer. There is so much propaganda afoot and deliberate suppression of facts.

This follows comments by US Treas. Sec. Scott Bessent (Jan/26) who described Alberta as “a natural partner for the US” & praised the province’s resource wealth and “independent” character during an interview with teal America’s Voice. (Alberta separation was rejected by 76% of voters Oct 19/26)

Since beginning this term President Trump often said the entire nation of Canada should become America's 51st state & tried to insult our leaders by calling them Governor, displayed maps claiming Canada as US territory. Denying Canada's independent existence is a severe form of political meddling.

Rather than directly financing Canada's universal system, any financial exchanges between the two nations stem from bilateral trade, such as U.S. energy imports. A trade deficit essentially means American buyers paid for products they received — it isn't a cheque directly to Ottawa. ⬇️

It sounds like Trump is trying to conflate his trumped up grievances against Canada, which he uses to justify tariffs against us, with a shaky defence against the well-founded criticism the US is the only advanced economy in the world without some form of universal public health care.

I don’t even know what that means

𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐔𝐌𝐍 𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐒, 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄 🍁 On my walk home in the Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver, BC I started taking phone pix of crimson trees. Most around here are not vivid red but I saw some of the intense hues we expected to see driving through the Laurentian Hills in Quebec, the week before last. ⬇️

I thought we might be too late in our Oct 4-14 tour of Quebec and Ontario, to see famously intense fall colour but it turned out we were a bit early. Still a lovely trip (including Montreal, Quebec City, Mont Tremblant, Ottawa, Niagara Falls, Toronto) but a bit shy of my "seeing red" expectations.

"...conservative commenter Andrew McCarthy wrote that Trump is giving Putin “aid and comfort.” Those words echo Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution, which defines treason against the United States, as “levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
