this is quite interesting actually, never thought of that

I think you'd like how @emberjs.com uses semver: > Ember major versions only remove deprecated features. They never introduce new features. This means major releases are not exciting, just a predictable point where some cleanup happens.

Laravel is good when used correctly, by correct i mean you follow the docs and their best practice the thing is, at least where i live, people do the craziest thing (not in a good way) with them because they simply don't read the docs and chose to read an outdated blog post on how to do something

sure it's not the most performant thing in the world, but it has a pretty good DX in my opinion, as long as you follow their docs instead of some random outdated Youtube video someone made

a lot of the results are just outdated, there's not enough people asking recent problems probably due to AI surge and people there are just being.. not being helpful to say the least you'd be better off searching through Github issues and discussions lol which is what I did 90% of the time

can’t remember the last time I used stackoverflow tbh

having different opinion from everyone else is okay, the so-called hot-take if you will, it adds another point of view to a discourse it's not okay when you're having different opinion for the sake of dismissing everyone's opinions and trying to be 'superior' because "oh look at me i'm different"

2024 ended up a pretty solid writing year for me. Here are the top 10 posts by views. Of them, 8 were written in 2024 (tanstack and pgbouncer have had alot of staying power, they're from 2023). I'll link to each after this, in case you'd like to check them out!

Happy New Year, everybody! Let's hope that next year will bring us more awesome features and less broken configs! Here is a small thread with #neovim development stats in 2024.

I didn't know my laptop screen was _that_ bad until I bought a decent monitor. It's xiaomi g24i if you're curious. 1080p@120hz (capped by the gpu and hdmi, should be able to go 180hz). Also, moving from 60hz to 120hz feels like a night and day difference.

one of the good thing about note taking that i just realised is it forces me to think more, like, thinking is actually fun now lmao hopefully i can continue this habit for the forseeable future

still need to figure out why the IME doesn't seem to work, it's a bit annoying having to write ζ—₯本θͺž somewhere else and then copy and paste it into obsidian.

not to be ungrateful but I'm tired of working a boring job i mean sure at least i have a job, but it's so boring years of learning a bunch of fun stuff only to be working a boring CRUD job and maintaining this dumpster fire of legacy code with a lot of nonsense

i literally don't learn anything in my current work place, most of the time i fix the existing shitty code it hurts i can even say i learned a lot more when i was unemployed for 2 years

wrote a TIL of devon’s clever trick to automatically pick a contrasting text color:

Found a neat CSS trick to automatically swap between black or white text based on any arbitrary background color! With relative color syntax, you can use calc to adjust the text color depending if the background is above or below 50% lightness in the LCH color space.

not to mention that threads is filled with a bunch of nonsense posts, it's even shittier than X in my experience

Emily Liu@emilyliu.me

this context is important and missing from a lot of articles that cover bluesky / threads - bluesky: $0 marketing spend - threads: injects posts directly into instagram feeds with dark patterns (like trailing `...` instead of the full post) that incentivize users to download the app

going to uni is like you pay to be forced to learn what you don't really take interest in God I really want to graduate so bad, I want to spend my time to learn what I actually want to learn

people discovering that their data on a *public* network is, in fact, *public* "x is preventing data scraping" as if they're protecting your data lmao what a joke

maryπŸ‡@mary.my.id

how do people expect their servers to be found if it's not publicly discoverable
