I'm hiring a postdoc to help build tools for inferring complex speciation histories with genomic data. strong computational skills are a must, but this is a training opportunity. 60K$+ salary, 2 years, details flexible. please reach out! (and repost) ad here: jobs.montana.edu/postings/53150

I'm hiring a postdoc for our NSF IntBIO project on songbird behavior, physiology and fitness! Start date as early as April 1 or as late as Sept 2027. Emphasis on behavioral endocrinology and transcriptomics, plus field ornithology based on applicant interests: academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/33216.

looking for library prep / sequencing service providers that will handle degraded / historical tissue—who's good these days?

fun fact: @cjbattey.bsky.social wrote this (translating Joe Felsenstein's popG from Java) while a TA for Lorenz Hauser's popgen class in grad school

Just went from abject class-prep panic to cloning and deploying my own copy of the Shiny app I need for today's activity inside 20 minutes. Which is to say, thanks, @cjbattey.bsky.social, for putting driftR on Github github.com/cjbattey/dri...

grateful to have received the lab's first NSF grant to study cyclical processes of speciation with new theory and tools (applied to Melanesian birds). ad to come, but I'll be looking for a postdoc with computational biology chops—please reach out! (and repost) www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/...

sitting bolt upright in bed in a cold sweat as I realize I confused narrow- and broad-sense heritability in a lecture last week

The PROGressive PHYLOgenetics LAB is now officially open and I'm looking to hire at all levels!! If you are interested in phylogenetics and macroevolution, and enjoy any/all of the following: fossils, morphology, genomics, simulations, or method development, please reach out to me :)

counterpoint: the office is a few blocks from my house and I will invite you to a Barbecue

Cool people: apply for this and then choose the Tucson location option—much cheaper than Bozeman and Denver, and we have more and better biodiversity

I am 100% behind the intention here, but in my (anecdotal) experience it is tricky to figure out how to report (e.g.) 20-30 half-assed prompts to tweak a figure—something that seems to be the MO for grad students with no pre-AI-era programming experience

anyway, it's the wild west out there, and non-computational-EEB graduate training hasn't even begun to touch best practices (probably partly because of the stigma around it, and the habits of PIs themselves). would love thoughts from others grappling with this

new paper (my first w/ a Tok Pisin abstract)! our 2024 camera trap record of the rare New Britain Thrush prompted a review of all known observations of the species since its description—a mere 15 total. led by MS student Jason Gregg for the brand-new Journal of Lost Species: doi.org/10.66264/3c8...

Major #Botany2026 FOMO, but the drive MA->OR starts this week. So, sharing from afar: I’m recruiting grad students for my new lab at OSU! Info: www.mckenzie-lab.org . We're going to have FUN with systematics, speciation genomics, methods, natural history, and more in North Am angiosperms. Reach out!
