Huge effort from the Lab into the mechanics of the mysterious #ubiquitin like protein FAT10 – taking structural snapshots of FAT10 activation by UBA6 and transfer onto UBE2Z plus really interesting insights into InsP6 regulating FAT10 conjugation pathways: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

nature.comStructural determinants for FAT10 activation and transfer from UBA6 to E2 enzymes - Nature CommunicationsCryo-EM captures FAT10 activation and transfer from UBA6 to E2 UBE2Z, revealing FAT10 monopolises UBA6. Efficient transfer requires E2 engagement of both FAT10 UBL domains, particularly UBL2, and co-o...

could not be prouder of lillie and the fantastic story she uncovered - from a giant E3 ligase with an unexpected dimer switch to moyamoya mutations that hijack its regulation. a beautiful PhD project, full of surprises and scientific creativity doi.org/10.64898/202... - bsky.app/profile/lill...

Happy to share my PhD work on the regulatory mechanism of E3 ligase RNF213! RNF213 is not a monomer, but a dimer that switches between inhibited and activated states in an ATP-dependent manner. We tracked the activation mechanism and showed how disease mutations can destabilize the inhibited state.

Very happy to see the final version of our work on the structure and composition of cytoplasmic lattices in mouse embryos, previously shared on bioRxiv, now published in The EMBO Journal! Many thanks to our editor, Ieva Gailite, and the reviewers for their constructive input.

What’s the function of embryonic ‘cytoplasmic lattices’? Using cryo-ET, @kashishsingh.bsky.social @carter-lab.bsky.social and coworkers reveal them as megadalton-size hubs of ubiquitination proteins/ubiquitin transfer link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Our latest study of the scavenger receptor CD163, led by Richard Zhou. This follows our previous study of how CD163 uses its remarkable molecular architecture to bind haptoglobin-haemoglobin. We now show how its flexible arms allow haemoglobin binding, revealing how ligand promiscuity works.

Introducing our new blood-stage malaria vaccine immunogen based on the essential invasion protein PfCyRPA. By understanding where on PfCyRPA the best antibodies bind, we used structure guided design to generate PfCyRPA-EM, which contains only the epitopes of the best antibodies.

🧐 What if metabolic defects are not just a consequence of inflammatory disease - but actively contribute to it? Inflammation and metabolism are deeply intertwined, but the molecular links remain unclear. Our new paper in Cell Death & Differentiation uncovers one. 🧵👇 nature.com/articles/s41...
