so why exactly is a fairly half assed pirate plex setup more reliable and a better watching experience than paid streaming platforms exactly. smh

the most ADHD girl in the world, cooking: nah i don't need the oven timer. i'll definitely remember

i can't believe the existence of ai got so many ostensibly left-wing people to defend the concept of intellectual property of all things 🤢

shamans serve spirits but also so do the tavern keepers? sure. okay.

people are always like “capitalism will fix it, capitalism will fix it” but its been 20 years and capitalism hasn’t done shit about the top shortage

i'm not just saying this about political and economic systems! i'm stating more generally: high school cliques, fame in american culture, even stuff like small internet communities. 'social clout' and 'part of the in-group' are other kinds of power concentration, but it's the same social phenomenon

Ember@ember.pet

every large scale social system throughout recorded history and protohistory have had the same problems with concentration of wealth and/or power over time. this is a social problem, not a technical or procedural one

"But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?" "Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you." "Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud [...]"

James 2:6, 5:1, 5:4 are two thousand years old and basically discuss the same problems we have today. rich people abusing the poor in courts of law, poor people wishing death upon the rich, rich people committing fraud and stealing wages

what we have now isn't particularly far off from feudalism in concrete terms. a very small number of people control the vast majority of wealth allocation in society, that wealth is not allocated for the well-being of that society, and most people are stuck in their jobs without dignity or autonomy

I also feel obliged to point out that after Nintendo released the Wii U to commercial failure, in order to prevent layoffs, Satoru Iwata took a 50% pay cut. That should be a reminder that while 400 ppl lost their jobs, Andrew Wilson never took a pay cut to prevent it.

sometimes you think of something strange and it's like "that could be someone's kink". i've had two of those today. thankfully as long as I don't say it out loud it will remain hypothetical because no one can explicitly confirm it

the differentiator of all game dev and art at large will always and forever be "did someone give a shit about this" regardless of any technology surrounding it

alright let’s get something more pleasant going. what two books would you leave out on your coffee table so a reporter can mention you have them. doesn’t matter if you’ve read them. for me it’s Pale Fire (which I did read) and Ulysses (got like 15% of the way in)

"so you're telling me if I took that job the public could have... 'relations' with me?"

someone should write a book on how to talk to your aligned model about the birds and the bees
