It's complete! All bookcases are filled, and all my games now have a home. This has been more than a decade in the making, with my collection being in storage for so long. I am so happy to finally have it done. It looks rad, too.

I really like Control Resonant's leveling system. I like that you overall get stronger when unlocking other weapons and finishers. You get more tools to experiment with as you unlock stuff, but if you just like what you have already, you still get the power benefit of unlocking those other tools.

Uh oh, I'm already realizing that I need to buy a 5th bookcase for the game collection. The next game I buy will fill up bookcase #4. Going to think over it this week and then make a decision in a couple days. I don't like making snap purchases, so I'd rather think on it first.

I appreciate that people want a new Mass Effect, but the future where fans advocate for the work itself and not the people who make it is the one the vultures at EA want. If you'll take it however you get it, they can keep treating people who make what you love as expendable.

Imo, what you call your game doesn't matter if you end up being financially successful and make multiple sequels. If you name your game "Lightning Bum-Kissers", by the time you get to the 3rd game, no one will care what it means. It's just a series of sounds that evokes images of the previous games.

If by the 5th game, you're worried about growing the audience, you can do away with the meaning entirely, and simply call it "LBK". For some people, LBK Resonance will be the first game in the series they've ever played, and will be foundational in defining their taste in games going forward.

In Japan, Lightning Bum-Kissers will get a katakana title (ライトニングバッムキッサーズ) and the Japanese gaming community will take to calling it "LiBaKi".

So when I convert video files in Handbrake, my "conversion complete" sound is the Tekken 3 announcer. I'm sitting here watching Tree House of Horror when suddenly the conversion ended with perfect timing

I'm really curious if FF Resonance's success makes SQEX think deeply about how they approach FF's mainline series in the future. I guess that depends on HOW well Resonance sells.

I seriously can't believe we have a true turn based, 2D-HD Final Fantasy on console and PC. I have been waiting for this for literally years. SQEX can do whatever they want with the main FF series as long as they also keep pumping out games like Resonance. Hell, I'll play both.

I really like Control Resonant's assist mode, because it provides a bunch of sliders that allow you to tune values up and down to fit how you want to play (it even has a few presets!) I greatly appreciate this over difficulty options, as I sometimes feel the sweet spot is in between two settings.

For me, I just tuned player damage output up a bit, and didn't touch anything else, and that was enough to make the game sing for me, without trivializing difficulty. Encounters feel fun now, instead of dragging down the overall experience.

It can be a little frustrating when you're playing a game, and Normal is frustratingly difficult, but easy trivializes most of the game's mechanics. Being able to find that sweet spot yourself is really helpful. There's even a high player/enemy dmg output preset if that's what you want!

Finally watched Dune Part Two last night. Don't ask me why it took me so long to finally watch it. Absolutely loved it. A visual and narrative masterpiece, as expected from Denis Villeneuve. Watched the Part 3 trailer right after I finished the movie.

Austin Butler, btw, does a killer Stellan Skarsgard impression. He takes Skarsgard's accent and emulates it to make it part of the Harkonnen ruling class' identity. That is wonderfully impressive.

It's very important to keep in mind that it's not THAT bear that attacked him, but one like it.

Video game controllers. Modern ones have their fair share of issues (stick drift being the most common), but the form factor and the feel is the best it's ever been, especially if you're like me, and you've been cursed with Big Hands™️.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

For Control Resonant, the starting weapons I chose were: Main: dual blades Secondary: Drill polearm Finisher: Rotor blade that orbits around me. From my limited watch time of others playing, I've surmised that I apparently chose differently from everyone else.

In my defense, if you offer dual blades as an option, I'm GOING to choose it. That said, I do not begrudge those who succumbed to the siren song of the scythe. It _does_ look very cool.

Was watching a vid where ex-NK military defectors watch footage from MW4. When an ex-tank commander said "they must have toned this down because kids will play it. The reality is far more brutal", it gave me serious pause.

My assumption for any piece of military fiction based around conflicts with America's foreign enemies would be that they played up the brutality to make them look more villainous, but to hear someone say that the reality is so much more brutal just...made me incredibly sad.

I genuinely wish I had more money than I know what to do with, because I would blow it on things like buying Arkane Lyon.

It's a lesson on how much these systems can shape player perception, not just of an individual game but of entire genres and eras of gaming. In the case of beat 'em ups, the continue system literally flattened them to the point where most people can only distinguish the themes.

Painful review of the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle on Steam that really highlights how destructive the continue system was to people's perception of arcade games. The beat 'em ups mentioned play wildly different from one another if you're actually trying to survive on 1 credit.
