I had fun doing tie-dyeing with my union siblings

Summer's almost over and the Fall term is about to start (🙀), so we wanted to remember the fun times we had at our union picnic in July playing games, eating food, and doing tie-dye! Check out the LEO Calendar for future events! buff.ly/93HOqh6 #UnionSummer #UnionStrong #UnionFun

It’s me!

For those who have forgotten the past 40 years: Tax cuts for the rich ...don’t trickle down Boosting military spending ...doesn’t bring peace Slashing regulations ...doesn’t create jobs Folks, we’ve seen this all before.

We know AI isn’t even a little bit sentient because it is a computer program. That question is not more complicated. Computer programs are not the basic building blocks of sentience. It’s not the kind of thing we have to wait to see what happens first before we can really say one way or the other

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

AI companies’ best case scenario is putting us all out of work. Union workers deserve high paying jobs they can count on, not six month contracts building data centers for corporations’ unemployment machines.

Police use reverse warrants to demand the identity of everyone who used a search engine to look up a particular word or phrase — without any evidence they've done anything wrong. Delaware's ban on these dragnets should be celebrated and replicated across the country.

🚨In a MASSIVE data privacy win, Gov. Meyer has signed HB 145 into law, making Delaware the first state in the nation to enact a near BAN on reverse keyword warrants! 📣

Don't forget: Starbucks is boycotted. The company has received hundreds of NLRB rulings against it and still has 550 cases pending. Corporate is refusing to finalize a fair contract. Meanwhile, their CEO makes $14,900/hr. Baristas are asking for $17. No contract? No coffee.

I love my future senator!

Why are we supposed to be impressed that a robot beat Bolt's running record? There are millions of machines that can go faster than any human alive. There's so many of these machines, the traffic they cause frequently keeps them from moving at all. Where's the "reverse climate change" machine?

Mike Rogers is a liar who claims El-Sayed wants to get rid of “fireworks, football, and the Fourth of July” so I really can’t take his claims that Abdul is a “fringe extremist” seriously. 🙄

“Michigan’s most well-paid educators have continued to be in the state’s most populous districts, while educators in more rural or isolated areas are paid far less despite similar student-to-teacher ratios.” MI also ranks 45th in terms of starting pay 🤦‍♂️

A new Michigan State University analysis found inflation-adjusted teacher salaries have fallen more than those of any other state in three decades despite widespread support for educators.

🙌 I got sooo many text messages about sending money to Vindman's campaign, living here in Michigan, and I was like, "Has he ever run for public office before?!" "How long has he even lived in Florida!?" Same thing when Hill Harper ran against Slotkin in MI Senate race. It feels very carpetbagger.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Angie Nixon wins Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Florida special primary election.

Like, voters aren't just stupids who will vote for the "famous guy" who just moved in 2-5 years ago. I also think there's an unhealthy strategy of someone having a viral moment and then quickly turning that into a political leverage: Vindman, Mallory McMorrow, Tim Walz' "weird" comment...

If lawmakers are serious about protecting children, they should roll back age-verification policies and start targeting the systems that incentivise mass surveillance. Read my latest print piece for The Guardian 👇 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

NEW: The Right to Record Act was just introduced in Congress, which would allow people to sue federal agents who violate our First Amendment right to record their actions in public. This bill is essential to protecting our ability to hold our government accountable.

C'mon man, my "Race in American Popular Music" class is not the problem (also, Democratic politicians across the country are working hard to eliminate the kind of college seminars Obama uses as a scapegoat here because they occur in humanities and liberal arts curricula commonly deemed expendable)

Here’s to unions! ✊ #solidarity #UnionStrong

Folks on the TT job market feel this, too, and I only escaped after I accepted that I would never get a TT job (THAT only took eight years of applying and not receiving interview invites) also, my NTT gig has a terrific union that protects me and secures good compensation/benefits/work conditions

Over the past decade, workers have reshaped their unions from the inside out. Reform caucuses are the engine of that renewal. Change doesn’t just drop in from above. It starts on the shop floor. Learn more about starting a reform caucus in your union: labornotes.org/caucuspacket

In doing a lot of work on my family tree with my mom in the two years leading up to her death I learned that most of my Irish ancestry is actually Scotch Irish (Scottish & English settlers after the ethnic cleansing of Northern Ireland) so only a sliver of my ancestry is actually Irish ☘️ 💔🇬🇧👎

Nearly 1 million Michigan residents, about 9.9% of the state’s population, say they’re of Irish descent. See the rate for each county.
