I've been quiet again, mostly because I had been going through various symptoms with my health. With all the life stress I've had these past few months it's probably no surprise... However, circumstances should be getting better in the next month or so on my end, so I have that to look forward to!

So I finished playing through Bravely Default on the 3DS for the first time a while back. Honestly, this game was a pretty exhausting experience to go through, especially during the 2nd half where you're looping through your previous experiences over and over again with minor differences. #1/6

The art direction is gorgeous in some spots, the music is nicely composed and beautiful, and many of the characters are charming. The story in of itself, minus a certain twist revealed later on, is a pretty by the numbers narrative, but that's forgivable due to the true intentions of the game. #5/6

Bottom line, I would have liked Bravely Default more if it wasn't for the repetitive/tiring aspects of the narrative, the grind fest, and the boss fights. Still, I did enjoy the foundational elements enough to finish the game, and it was worth experiencing a good chunk of it, overall. #6/6

But in fairness, Bravely Default was trying to evoke that old school Final Fantasy spirit with challenging and strategic boss fights and excessive grinding to get to the destination. In that sense, it does succeed in delivering that experience, but it's not really what I was looking for here. #3/6

On the positives, the job system itself is fun to use with the variety of different battle classes you earn for your characters. The Bravely Second feature is also a nifty and helpful asset in battles that can help you out in a pinch when used right. #4/6

The pacing of the game was really something to tolerate with the amount of grinding needed for mastering job classes and leveling up your characters in general. Also, fighting against those optional asterisk bosses repetitively feels too much of a chore unless you enjoy hard challenges. #2/6

I know I've been quiet over the past couple of months. I moved to a new home recently and getting settled in. It's been a process that's eating up my focus and time. Otherwise I've been gradually playing through Bravely Default on the 3DS. Anyway, hope you all are having a good December so far.

Happy 10 years for Undertale! I remember hearing how much of a phenomenon it was for indie games back then. Once I tried playing it, I eventually understood why it struck gold for so many people. I do think it's a great game and I'm happy to see it still having an impact. #undertale10thanniversary

I gave KPop Demon Hunters a watch today. I was engaged while viewing it and enjoyed the art, music and vibe it had going for it! The story was decent and the characters were likable, too. I recommend checking it out if you want to see an animated film that is fresh and stylish. #kpopdemonhunters

For about a year, I had been playing through the Crossbell duology from The Legend of Heroes: Trails series, consisting of Trails from Zero, and Trails to Azure. Overall, I enjoyed playing through these games, but I would not call them among my favorites in the whole series. #TrailsSeries

Given that these two games were originally released on the PSP roughly 15 years ago, they are pretty dated when it comes to features and graphics compared to the games released after them, naturally. That said, they still look pretty charming. The music is also enriching and pleasant to listen to.

Overall, on their own, Zero and Azure are very good, long JRPGs to enjoy, especially for those who like having lots of character depth and overarching storylines from other games playing a role in the overall narrative. But relative to the other Trails games, they are medium-low tier for me.

I did enjoy how deep the story is and how much depth many of the characters have. As a JRPG, it is riddled with many archetype characters and the story can be a bit of a drag at times. But the combat is fun and exploring around the world is interesting as well.

A few thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2: I’m not going to buy one this year. Of the games announced so far, only Mario Kart World interests me. And the high pricing of the system/games, likely caused by inflation and tariffs being implemented across the world, is a turn off for my consideration.

In regards to Mario Kart World, it makes sense for Nintendo to want to capitalize on a guaranteed hot title and sell it for around $80, especially at launch. But I am skeptical that the game, as interesting as it is, will not be large or amazing enough to make it worth that price.

I eventually want to see how the Switch 2 will perform on its backwards compatibility with the Switch library. I hope my save data, digital downloads and game recordings can be transferable to the Switch 2. If they aren’t, that might be another turn off for me wanting to purchasing one.

For the past couple of years, I’ve been thinking of retiring from supporting Nintendo. The games I play from them just don’t really interest me anymore, like Mario, Pokémon, Smash Bros and, to some degree, Fire Emblem. I’ve not cared much for their other series like Zelda, Metroid and Splatoon, too.

Anyway, I’m at a point in my life where I feel Nintendo’s general offerings do not appeal to me anymore with how derivative and superficial they sometimes feel. I’d much rather focus my video gaming activities elsewhere, which is on Steam these days.

While I’m willing to wait and see Nintendo announce their successor to the Switch in the near future, I have little interest in it for now. Besides, I have plenty of old Nintendo games from their retro systems I’d rather revisit after so long, then to spend money on their newer products.

Their outdated/minimalist game design philosophy and limited advancement in hardware technology are other factors that have turned me off from wanting to support Nintendo any further. And don’t get me started on how they operate as a business and how they negatively treat their fans sometimes...

I am thankful for a social media site that’s not run by disinformation-pushing maniacal billionaire, not controlled by an algorithm design to censor news and much-needed debate, and not overrun by mean-spirited people who encourage and celebrate ignorance. Thankful, indeed.

Earlier this week I decided to deactivate my Twitter/X account. I've used that platform less often over the past year due to the unwelcome changes being carried out there. Now in the aftermath of the U.S. Election results, I've had enough of it. Seems like millions of others are doing the same too.

Got around to seeing "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" in theaters. It's a good, enjoyable sequel to the original 1988 classic. While not flawless, this turned out better than it could have otherwise. It's familiar, yet doesn't obsess on doing just retreads of the first film. I'd watch it again.

This summer has been pretty good for me overall, but I'm eager for fall to arrive. It's my favorite season with my birthday, the holidays, fall colors and cooler, crisp weather to look forward to. Plus the pumpkin flavored foods, of course.

I finally got the spam calls to stop bothering me on a near daily basis after installing Truecaller on my phone. Paying for a one month subscription allowed me to use a virtual assistant to answer these spam calls for me. The calls have essentially stopped since then. Awesome.

I've been dealing with annoying spam calls several times a week lately. Ignoring and blocking individual calls doesn't do much because they just move on to using a different phone number in hopes of tricking me. How long must this last before it stops or at least be much less frequent?

Over the past few weeks, I had been playing a few of my 3DS games online in light of Nintendo's plan to shut down the servers tomorrow. Gotta say...it's been real fun and nostalgic. I honestly didn't use the 3DS's Wi-Fi features too much over its lifespan, but I am going to miss those experiences.

So I've heard Bsky is now open for signing up without using invite codes. A part of me is concerned of what will happen to this platform in the long run, but this was bound to happen at some point. I'd rather be here than that Musk driven one.

I'm pretty late on doing this, but I finally gave Sonic Prime a proper watch by checking out the very first episode. While I did have a few nitpicks on things like the writing, it was honestly pretty solid and I kind of liked what I saw. Wouldn't mind seeing a few more episodes in the future.

I've wrapped up my long playthrough of Trails of Cold Steel IV (well over 100 hours). With it, brings the Cold Steel saga to an end for me. I still need to play Trails into Reverie (and the Crossbell Saga), but I'll be taking a break from the Trails series to focus on other games I've sidelined.

I've been on this website for a week now. I'm not a very active person on social media usually, but I can see Bluesky being my primary place to go for now on. Feels less toxic here compared to the big platforms we all know. Plus, I dig the vibe here. :)

You are up to date.
