Great news that car-lite towns advocates won't be at all surprised about. Good work @cohsat.bsky.social
A report on 5 years of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in East Oxford shows that they have reduced road casualties by over 100. The report by the Coalition for Healthy Streets and Active Travel (CoHSAT) also points to the health benefits of reduced air pollution and performance of Cowley Road shops.

She wrote all that code by hand and it landed on the moon. Such an iconic photo. Hereβs to Margaret Hamilton (1936β2026). What an incredible and pioneering woman for science. An inspiration to us all. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
A) Yes you can. B) But anyway, nobody is saying that you have to. C) It is perfectly possible to own a car and also do most of your journeys NOT by car (and/or want to reduce how many journeys you drive). D) What do the many people who don't have a car do? So fed up with this ridiculous argument.
Shadow roads minister Greg Smith says: βYou can't do the family shop or a family of five on the back of a bike.β This will be news to anyone with a cargo bike or a trailer.
Big shout out to everyone at @ategov.bsky.social for a great conference in Manchester over the past two days. I have too many thoughts swirling around in my head about it, so for now I'll just say thanks, and it was really good to catch up with so many friends and colleagues βΊοΈ (Also: MCR is fab!)
"they cannot fade away for every motor-horn." A century-old letter in a newspaper from CTC (now Cycling UK) which demonstrates that some things never change... π
100 years ago today: A cyclist replies to a motorist's complaint that cyclists don't pay road tax and cycle two or more abreast, holding up drivers. How things have changed.
Terrible policy when domestic transport is the biggest contributor to greenhouse gases in the UK. We need to be going all-in on helping people AWAY from reliance on fossil fuels, not subsidising their use even more than we already do.
Petrol and diesel prices are higher than they've been for a long time and people need help now.
Hard to work out from this article but this was a 84 year old (fit and healthy) pedestrian who was hit and killed by a car driver. (He happened to be a former president of the Chartered Institute of Housing as well as a much loved member of the local community)

You really don't have to look very hard, for very long, or go back very far, to tot up quite the list of innocent pedestrians killed by motor vehicle drivers...
I did have a look at recent pedestrian deaths last night and it is shocking. It is almost invisible - many of the deaths don't even get reported in the local news. Here are a few of the recent ones:

βCopenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike β an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.β #Copenhagen chose. They keep choosing even better every year.

On the one hand, some people want to make it so that kids and other people aren't crushed to death by cars. On the other hand, some people are upset that they might have to pay attention, slow down or be inconvenienced by about 15 seconds. So you can see how it's a "war on cars."
Argh can we please agree to call these e-motos?! And I'm going to try to start calling my eapc an e-bicycle.
Phone thieves and robbers: we're closing in. Backed by record City Hall funding, the Met's new fleet of Sur-Ron e-bikes is targeting criminals who use illegal, modified bikes to evade police and commit crime. That means more arrests and fewer escape routes.
