I think Vassago's love for Stolas runs very deep, deeper than we know, so far he's wanted nothing more than to bring Stolas happiness, and with that I believe he will be willing to give Stolas up to give him that happiness, even if it hurts him, he's a good man

To avoid that, you have to respect the creators as artists, regardless of whether you trust the story to satisfy you in the end or not. If you haven’t gone that far yet, you can pace yourself, and discuss that characters’ diegetic screw-ups fairly, not hold it personally against the writers.

Negative opinions can get unfairly harassed, but from what I’ve seen haters can also be downright predatory and try to amplify negative feelings towards the story for their own vindication. They want to pull in as many people as possible into their toxic parasocial circles.

I always thought that the over-the-top hate and parasocial behavior thrown out way made discussions about the morally ambiguous behavior of the characters more difficult, because we should be able to express those emotions without looking over our shoulder.

U guys have to realize Striker is like Vox but poor. "You have a powerful message about overthrowing your oppressers. But also your real desire is to lead a revolution specifically so that you can have the glory of being it's figure head and not actually because you care about ppl."

Ditto for Blitz, if we assume he’s also trying to punish himself and internalizing that he doesn’t deserve to have good things happen to him.

#HBspoilers Reflecting on Stolas’s actions for a bit, and I remembered a recent comment positing that the relentless punishment he endured wasn’t really improving things. It wasn’t making him *more* self-aware or less naive. That’s why he doesn’t need “comeuppance,” he needs to grow.

It’s like a vicious cycle. Acting selfishly against someone they care about, then overcorrect and make some huge sacrifice for their sake, but then go back to acting selfish because they’re reeling from the consequences of said sacrifice. Not many shows tackle this non-lineart development.

#HBspoilers When you think about it, it kind of deconstructs the idea of using misery as substitute for character development. This seems to be a trend across both shows. Suffering isn’t redemption.
