I was blown away by a spectrum taken by JWST of a galaxy so far away it took its light 13.5 BILLION YEARS to reach Earth. Even cooler, it shows more heavy elements than we expected. The universe keeps surprising us. badastronomy.beehiiv.com/p/record-bre... 🧪 🔭

Electing Trump the first time could have been seen as an aberration, a quirk of US politics that would not be repeated. But electing him a second time sent a clear signal to the rest of the world that it is imperative to reduce military and economic dependence on the US because it is unstable.

If the founders wanted the President to have "inherent authority" they wouldn't have spelled out his actual authority in detail in the U.S. Constitution - or created two other branches of government for that matter.

Elon Musk getting in a little snit and threatening to pull the rockets essential to supplying the humans on the International Space Station is why the government should NOT award him critical contracts, like SpaceLink proving Internet access in war/disasters.

This is painful, and saddening, and embarrassing. I feel like we're losing a member of the family - and for no good reason other than that some Americans wanted another season of the worst reality TV show in history.

I just want to say for the record that when the history books are written centuries from now, I believe the election of Donald Trump in a free and fair election in 2024 will go down as one of the most senseless and self-destructive own goals in human history

If I “inadvertently” rendered a Nazi salute, I’d be sick to my stomach. I’d be devastated about the bedtime conversations I forced Jewish parents to have, trying to reassure frightened kids. I wouldn’t laugh it off, and if I could laugh it off, it would mean it wasn’t inadvertent at all.

America’s allies should be deeply concerned about Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing. America’s enemies, meanwhile, are almost certainly laughing in amazement at their unexpected good fortune. www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...

When I first opposed the populist, economic, forgotten-man arguments (years ago), and then wrote a book about it, I got a lot of pushback because the economic narrative was firmly lodged among both right and left. It was always a red herring.

Trump breaks laws, lies, flip flops and the entire GOP lines up behind him… and voters reward the GOP with the White House, Senate, House. Biden reverses himself on Hunter — he refuses to sacrifice his son to Trump’s DOJ — and Dems line up to condemn Biden.

It goes without saying that this is stupid, and I wonder what set it off. Was there a segment on Fox News? But I thought it might be worth a thread explaining what Trump (and, to be fair, some other international leaders) don't get about international money 1/
