it feels truly insane that it’s not

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

One of the oddest parts of Reflect Orbtial’s schtick is its claim of “substantive discussions” with scientists and astronomers. Basically zero evidence of this or it having an impact thus far.

Taking a quick break to scream about the proposal and scream some more about how incredibly fucking terrible Reflect Orbital is https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/oct/26/california-sunlight-space-mirrors-satellites

Hey everyone - Fark’s running an October subscription drive. We’re a bit short of our goal and could use a boost. fark.com/subscribe If you sign up for TotalFark this week you’ll get a special SOON badge. When “It Happens” the “SOON” badge will change to “It Happened!” Here are the two badges:

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

As always, Monday issues of my Bad Astronomy Newsletter are free! You can read 'em, share 'em, make a brrroooch out of 'em... and it costs nothing. Your email addy goes nowhere except a database used to send the newsletter. That's it.

Voting early is a good idea for a LOT of reasons.

Marian Call@mariancall.bsky.social

please please vote before election day, and tell your circles to. Republican mayors and governors are watching this unfold and getting ideas.

This is pretty funny. A crackpot group claims they see relatively recent small comet impacts all over the place, and cite as evidence structures such as — seriously — golf bunkers, gravel pits, and retention basins. Embarrassing.

People who come to my Science Getaway vacation get meteorites, and I'm sorting them by size just sorta cruising along and then suddenly bam I think, "These FELL FROM SPACE!!" and I'm reminded why I love this stuff.

It’s enraging that Ilhan Omar is being put through this, but she deserves so much credit for punching back. She’s doing her best to make it COST Trump and co for their persecution and lies. “Pedophile protection party,” hell yes. Calling out DOJ corruption, same. If they want a fight, hit ‘em hard.

Ilhan Omar@ilhanmn.bsky.social

The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history. Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar.

This is *great*, from my very talented friend Marian.

We don't need outside direction. This is our goddamn election. Try to buy us -- you're bound to fail. I co-wrote a song with Josh Fortenbery with help from @pat.alaskarobotics.com. We have THOUGHTS about billionaires spending for Prop. 2 in Alaska, and we will be voting NO. youtu.be/W0u7nS1_O_4

I really like this podcast, and this particular episode with @goastromo.bsky.social was really fun and interesting!

On today's episode Daniel and Kelly interview the amazing @goastromo.bsky.social (Dr. Moiya McTier) about how we define and measure creativity, and the impacts of the modern world on creative pursuits. Check out her new book, Mothers of Invention! www.iheart.com/podcast/105-...

As Jesus clearly said, "Care not about your neighbor, nor feel his pain as your own, nor his suffering, but instead gather ye your coins and blessings and put your foot to his throat and not your hand to his outstretched arm."

Congrats to the Martian Moons eXplorer team on a successful launch!

And Lift Off! A glorious launch of #MMX, the start of an amazingly awesome 5 yr round trip to Mars' moon Phobos. 1yr to get there, 3yrs exploration landing on the surface (twice), then 1yr to get home with the bounty (2tbls of Phobos dust), arriving in the Australian outback in 2031! 🥳🔭🧪🛰️🚀

Given this is ICE and White House, I have zero doubts these charges are bullshit, and done specifically to terrorize potential blue voters. Still: Make sure you are registered to vote, and if you can, vote early. And be careful! We no longer live in a free democracy.

Months of fears around the use of armed immigration enforcement to affect national elections appear to be coming to fruition. Federal authorities announced the arrest in California of at least 11 people and charges against 28, alleging they registered to vote as noncitizens.
