My cousin is visiting me in Portland for the first time since the 90s. He wants to go to "cool coffee shops." What are your recommendations? Eastside preferred. The "coolest" coffee places go to semi-regularly are Case Study (NE Sandy) and Grendel's (Lower Burnside). Thanks.

This reminds me of something I did in 2106. #rctid

Been a lot of chatter about how the upcoming MLS schedule change is going to affect play on the field. @kierdoyle.bsky.social decided to look exactly how. www.americansocceranalysis.com/home/2026/10...

Ancestry sent an update. It’s pretty much what I’ve always thought. 1/4 Norwegian, 1/4 Swiss on Dad’s side; 1/2 Czech on Mom’s. I’m going to miss being [1%] Portuguese, though. That was, as they say, “Maravilhoso!”

My Swiss immigrant family founded one of the first sawmills in Washington’s Coast Range. They later sold it and lost everything investing in a company that made a chainless bicycle. The mill was sold to a guy named McCormick who became partners with some guy named…Weyerhaeuser.

My great-grandparents invested $10,000 in the Hill-Climber. That was a lot of money in 1900, almost $375,000 today. It’s one of the reasons my grandmother moved to Mt. Angel - my hometown - as a child. My great-grandfather’s first job there was working at the Mt. Angel Abbey’s dairy.
