I took some time to make sure all tiles (and their specific properties) are correct for all 21 rooms in my conversion of Wanted: Monty Mole from ZX Spectrum to Acorn Electron... sharing this pretty picture for those who may attempt their own conversion of this classic game in the future 😎

"Wanted: Monty Mole" (WIP) on Acorn Electron. Took longer than expected because movement code is quite convoluted. Not perfect yet. Slowed down to target 25fps. Funny quirks in original game (and in mine): 1. No eye when walking right, 2. Walks slower on some tiles because constantly "falling"

So, I'm working on a specific feature and... I think I'm going back to the drawing board with this one. #mausitron #retro #gamedev #whoops #nicedayforpissing

I've released the v1,0.0. release candidate of #Oids for PC and also the v0.9.7 #ZXSpectrumNext version. The PC version now has the editor built in. It'll be coming soon to the Next. #retro #atarist #gamedev mausthekat.itch.io/oids/devlog/...

Now I've finished the PC version, I've also been working on a #ZXSpectrumNext conversion of #Oids. It should be ready some time this week once I get the last few bugs and performance issues sorted out. It's nearly feature complete and seems to run at a steady 50fps. #retro #GameDev #AtariST

This is Monty Mole. Taken from Dream time Monty on the Spectrum Next. Here my sprite is busy running on my Smart watch 🥰

Major milestone today! Basic multiplayer comms between a ZX Spectrum Next (on the left) and PC (on the right) Jet Set Willy: Redux client via a headless server on PC. Still early days yet, but this is promising... This might just be doable! #ZXSpectrumNext #JetSetWilly #Retro #ZXSpectrum #GameDev

Finally! Got the #JetSetWilly Redux in-game map working more or less how I want it on the #ZXSpectrumNext. Just a few more tweaks and optimizations needed and it will be at parity with the PC version (downloadable as jetsetwilly.net). #Retro #Gamedev

So, the PC/Mac/Linux version of JSWR is approaching the 1.0 release and, barring a few bugs, seems pretty stable. That means its time to work on phase 2 of my evil plan (TM). #JetSetWilly #ZXSpectrum #ZXSpectrumNext #GameDev #Retro

Here are some boring screenshots of tools I've built for JSW:R. The first two show a test case for the path finder. The second is an asset pack exploration tool. See alt text for more. The latest pre-release can be downloaded at jetsetwilly.net. #JetSetWilly #Retro #Python #Rust #gamedev

New multiplayer trap types for Jet Set Willy: Redux. In addition to mines, we now have banana skins, whisky bottles, orchids, glue, and springs. The video shows the effect of each. (It also shows off a Custom Willy designed with the in-game editor.) #JetSetWilly #retro #gamedev #Python

I spent some of today working on custom map/tileset support. This tileset was extracted from an old mobile phone version of the game. #JetSetWilly #retro #Python #gamedev

I figured out a sensible way to handle the crumbling platforms in a multiplayer context for the multiplayer #ManicMiner map in #JetSetWilly #Redux: I have them "uncrumble" after a few seconds. #Retro #Gamedev #Python

I managed to get the first "official" test session going today thanks to the #JSWO crew at the #RGDS Discord. It went about as disastrously as expected, of course, but on the bright side I did gather lots of juicy diagnostics. I still detest network code. #JetSetWilly #Retro #GameDev #Python

I still despise debugging network code, but at least I got the multiplayer victory screen working... (I managed to break a bunch of stuff related to teams, and I also found a weird bug where 3/4 players froze and forgot to have logging turned on. Sigh.) #JetSetWilly #Retro #Gamedev #Python

More #JetSetWilly. This time with alternative graphics from a mobile conversion from about twenty years ago.
