Please take a moment to remember former Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras who died in a car accident 12 years ago today. He was just 22. As a teen, Taveras spent four years in Montréal and competed in Baseball Québec’s Midget Triple-A League with Marquis de Montreal.

I have a *new* Pete Crow-Armstrong poem published in the World Series issue of The Twin Bill with AMAZING original artwork by a Canadian illustrator! Check it out!

Enjoyed the conversation and hearing about the Satchel Paige Project. Right up my alley.

Harvey’s Wallbangers had one of the great team nicknames of all time. Has there been another team nickname since then? Might I suggest…Murphy’s Ballbusters?

I connected with Fred Claire while working on a Dodgers-related book and found him to be incredibly kind and generous. The former sportswriter-turned-baseball executive wrote about his inspiring cancer journey in the book Extra Innings. He donated all proceeds from the book to City of Hope. RIP.

Found the one baseball-related item at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle. Children of Finnish immigrants playing sandlot ball in Askel, Michigan, circa 1915.

The Seattle Mariners have completed 50 seasons and won zero pennants. They could go 162-0 for the next two seasons and their franchise record would still be below .500. And yet, for a meaningless game on the final day of the season they outdrew every other team. PNW baseball fans deserve better.

Arte Moreno bought the Angels in 2003 (the year after they won the Series) for $184 million. He then spent 23 years running them into the ground, let the stadium decay, wasted Trout and Ohtani, and sold for $4 billion. And the owners are crying poverty and threatening to kill baseball next year.

These teams are carrying eight relief pitchers. The Mariners had Monday off,, and Wilson skipped over six actual rested pitchers to bring in Rivas. I go back to my very simple rule: If you’re carrying 13 pitchers, you are not allowed to use a position player to pitch.

In the NHL, there is always an emergency goalkeeper on hand, which is like a random dude from the area who maybe played some college hockey 20 years ago. Sometimes they even get in. Anyway, there should be a dude at every baseball game for this purpose when the score gets out of hand.

I’m 100% convinced Ichiro in his prime would have won the MLB home run derby if given the opportunity. We got a glimpse of it tonight in Seattle. 8 homers in the M’s alumni derby…at age 52!

Ichiro is going through a warmup routine for the Mariners alumni home run derby as if it’s a game. Playing long toss and throwing lasers from the warning track to the first-base line.

Tonight was only the third time in Yankees history in which both teams hit five or more home runs. One of the other two was this slug fest, featuring 3 home runs by Lou Gehrig!

Impromptu home run derby in the Bronx. It's stretch time, and the Cards and Yankees have combined for 10 home runs, including 3 by Alec Burleson.

A week after the Dodgers announced the signing of Jackie Robinson, Dan Daniel of The Sporting News wrote, "It is quite inconceivable that the story has received far more attention than it is worth. ... Robinson ... insofar as can be discerned, will never play for the Brooklyn club." Wow.

24 teams within 4 1/2 games of a playoff berth. I know I keep hammering this point, but it's because parallel to this, MLB has built an entire labor strategy, including a media campaign, around this not being true.
