I feel so bad when I don't have an answer to someone asking me "Will Again Again play in Boston?" or "Will it be streaming internationally?" but please DON'T STOP ASKING!!! This is a tiny movie with no distribution and no studio backing and you being vocal about wanting to see it helps immensely 💖🖤

with hindsight, 9/11 broke the collective consciousness of the US due to the realization that international news could happen TO us and not just from us it made daily life first feel like a liminal echo of reality in shock, and then an increasingly horrifying black mirror of reality in response

leaving the outside world a couple weeks after during the first phase, and re-entering it months later during the second, with a few letters and calls as my only contact in-between changed my perspective so did seeing a lot of those patriotic sign-ups lose their shit when daydreams got consequences

for one thing, my class had been half a class originally going to ft moore (then benning), half going to ft jackson, somehow all in a hastily added cycle at ft. leonard wood which are respectively the infantry training base, the base nicknamed “relaxin’ jackson”, and “fort lost in the woods”

half my class signed up before (me included), when it was easy for recruiters to make enlistment look like another route to college with some cash and job training bonuses. half ran to sign up after in the post-attack nationalistic haze. it made for even more of a melting pot than usual for basic

Dolly did a big one for every woman who ever felt like less of a woman for not having children, and another big one for every woman who ever thought she couldn’t keep up with the boys, and another big one for everyone with an artist’s soul.

Dolly loved and mothered all of us who were told by our towns we were too fallen for loving and mothering. The queer. The slutty. The barren. “I know, honey. Just let it out.” —— I’ll leave you this. Dolly (and Linda and Emmylou) loving and mothering the wayward son. youtu.be/wWEQDyrbphE?...

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.

... not to mention her philanthropy (which could fill several posts alone), her mentorship for other up-and-coming artists (especially women artists, could ALSO fill posts), and speaking up for kindness and empathy to those who are least often afforded it. an absolute queen

I am not speaking in hyperbole when I say that I genuinely believe that the world would be a better place if people had enough of a spine to treat bad actors in every community this way. However, with proximity to money and fame everyone’s descernment and morals just kinda evaporate.

found out Larry David just starts verbally abusing Alan Dershowitz whenever he sees him, this is very good

i did a new talk for the first time this week, which includes a lot about mister rogers, and felt embarrassed because i got choked up several times and had to pause. (because mister rogers, you see) then had the thought “can’t do the best version before the first version”

Most video games only give you XP when you succeed at things, but in real life, it's usually the failures that give you the kind of experience that lets you level up. I've come to see "failure" as a gift of experience instead of a misfortune.

Everywhere should be a hostile place for Republicans. They should not be able to find a friend anywhere. They should lose all their professional and familial relationships. They should be blocked from signing up to social media platforms, clubs, and yard sales. They should be ejected from fairs.

on the weekly call with dad DAD: “you ever watch the short films on youtube?” ME: “…like, free movies?” DAD: “no, on the homesheet. if you go a couple rows down, they’ve got one category that’s just criticizing trump, pet videos, and guys working on their classic cars! it’s great!” 🥹

the x-men are an avatar for marginalized stories as a metaphor for racial equality when introduced during the 60s US civil rights movement. since then, they’ve told stories of the holocaust, of AIDS, of immigrants, of queerness, of disability sometimes as metaphor, sometimes text

I always loved the X-Men BECAUSE they could be themselves and not have to fit any particular set of standards. That's the fun of them! And it means a lot to people.
