Who has two thumbs, an election law practice, and scheduled herself a dentist appointment for the week before the election? 👍👍

I've got another "help a normie out" question: The local "electoral socialist" group is hosting a "strategy brainstorming" session for three hours this Sunday afternoon. This is prime GOTV time.

Is there a reason I am missing to keep people who are interested in electing socialist candidates (and there are socialists running, if not at the top of the ticket) inside a meeting hall all afternoon during GOTV weekend instead of on doors or phones?

This is not the response in Wisconsin, unless you are trying to vote and don’t have valid ID on you. If you get there and aren’t registered, try to re-register. If your qualifications are challenged, there is a process. But also call the WisDems hotline, 608-336-3232, or message me.

Outsourcing some of the mental load to machines is not a bad thing--we all do it (we have electronic calendars and address books and reminders) but this is not that. This is outsourcing creativity and talking to your family to AI.

Jesus. "To Mayer, outsourcing some of the mental load to the machines isn’t a bad thing. (At one point, she mused enthusiastically about the potential efficiency gains of having her A.I. assistant talk directly to her husband’s A.I. assistant)." www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/s...

Anecdotes are not data and weather isn't climate but I have eaten Transfer Pizza's bruschetta salami every October 24 since 2009 and the tomatoes have been getting markedly better over the years and I have to assume that's because the season is getting later.

when you're reading a transcript of a banger of a cross-exam you did but you still preface almost every question with "okay" or "all right" despite spending the 12 years since someone pointed out that you did that trying not to do it

Be an election lawyer, they said It will be fun, they said This is brought to you by working on a giant brief in a non-election case all weekend so that I can do election law later

Trains are great The guy next to me is stoned off his gourd and in and out of sleep The woman ahead of me is very upset with one of her children (on the phone) People on the other side of the car are heading to the World Series and are definitely pregaming None of these people are driving

As I am no longer allowed to watch debates in public, and the Kalahari probably isn't airing this anywhere anyway, I am watching the gubernatorial debate in my hotel room Ack

Poll: You are an adult man at a waterpark hotel. You have enjoyed some quality time at the waterpark, and you are returning to your room. Do you: 1) at least put on a shirt and shoes, or failing that a towel and flip-flops 2) just walk in your bare feet and swim trunks and chest hair, its okay

I am in a waterpark hotel for business and they gave me a room that is reasonably situated to the convention center and is not in a thoroughfare This is new

The theme here is vaguely “what if a sanitized Africa without any of the people or food or culture, and a seasonal fairgrounds had a toddler who ate money”

“Why ride the train when it’s as slow as driving?” Because I got two letters done on the train and I could use the bathroom without stopping and my conductor was the son of a late former colleague so we caught up and if I was in the car I would just be driving.

I voted today! Every statewide officer I voted for is younger than I am, which is a first for a general election. Also voted no on those three garbage referenda.

I found some strategic planning from 2019 and I said that in 2027 it was my goal to have the top lawyers' professional responsibility practice in the state. I guess in a couple months we'll know how I did

Wait, Illinois gives CLE teachers 7 credits for every one hour of speaking time? But if they're on a panel then that credit gets divided between the panelists? It takes me wayyyyy longer to prep for most panels than it does for a solo talk. (WI is 2:1 regardless of the number of speakers.)

Boosting Megan and adding my own color: I bombed OCI in spectacular fashion. In retrospect, it was because I was not interested in BigLaw (that's all who did OCI at my school) and could not fake being interested in BigLaw. But there were still job listings and networking, and that worked for me.

One of our younger associates cold emailed, and she's one of the best associates I've worked with. You'll find your way! Also, particularly for 1Ls, there are public interest fellowships, school internships, and other things you can do over the summer that pay. It doesn't have to be a firm.

When I'm in Madison I am usually there for business, and while I can and do take Badger Bus, Amtrak will be easier for working (there are tray-tables and quiet cars) and the proposed permanent stop is adjacent to Monona Terrace and an easy walk to the Square, where the bus stop is by UW.

If this costs the $30 that it cost to get to Chicago, that’s still a lot less than the IRS mileage rate to get between Milwaukee and Madison. And that doesn’t even factor in dealing with/paying for parking or having to drive on East Wash for any reason.

The paper towel dispenser in my office bathroom is making a noise that sounds quite a bit like the opening note from "Jump Around," if that note were more buzzy

hearing preparation when you're the respondent and there's a pro se movant and you have no idea what you're actually going to be responding to might actually be a good use case for ChatGPT because lord knows the pro se is using it for their prep
