The existential question is: how did we build a social system that favors people with poor sense of humor so much? I don't see the evolutionnary logic here. 🤔

breaking: wealthy people who are detached from reality are usually very bad at making jokes and trying to shitpost, more news at 11

@lichess.org retired their native android for a PWA and I wouldn't have it any different, especially as a Huawei user 😅

Away at my parents due the holidays, we didn't bring the Switch. Looks like it's time to i droduce my daugther to style retrogaming!

What I don't really get with those loops and graphs is how do you plan clearly that many features ahead. I've only come across to cases:  * A pile of well defined tickets -> agent pwns them by the dozen without loop or graph. * Design as you go and I need a lot of HIL anyways.

The "make me this whole app already, burn tokens for 24 hours straight" hasn't shown up to me yet. There are many, many points that benefits my input after a few minutes anyways. And it's not a tooling problem, it's just that I need to see the thing to know what I want next.

I'm finding myself liking dev on WSL more and more for this reason: isolation. Plus it forces me to setup everything for a remote, which just had me ready for well... An actual remote machine. Tauri/GPUI isn't fun though...

an AGENTS.md sitting in ~/Downloads got a coding agent to try installing a rogue npm package per the researchers, the one folder the web can write to on its own https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/ai-coding-agents-hijacked-using-agentsmd-file-in-downloads-folder/

I'm very much a "second wave" person when it comes to harness and stuff. I don't dismiss the new stuff entirely, I just wait for people to burn their tokens to battletest it. And maybe, we'll see, I'll pick a few ones. Plus, there's no way I compete with the cutting edge crowd anyways.

dax@thdxr.com

there's way too much obsession with being at "cutting edge" right now as though it has to do with what tools you picked it's all about how you use them and your creativity. people doing great work can do it in vanilla claude code

"Your PDS does not support granular permissions yet. Ask your host to upgrade before signing in to protocube." When the last time I updated my PDS again 😳? #atdev oopsie

After simply not receiving the mail for a couple weeks, Cursor now sends two simultaneous email, with one correct and one wrong code. These companies are drowning in their own tokens. I'm sure half the people have no clue what they are doing anymore.

A few weeks ago, I was asked to work on a Rube Goldberg–slope app. Now six people are reverse-engineering it, asking “Why are we doing this? Who needs this feature?” I’m overhearing it all across the open office. Half 🍿, half wanting to quit this BS and work in a farm.

Bref I'm n'y a rien qui va.

I've been sent on investigating memory issues on an app I did know nothing about today. I was a bit afraid Opus 5.5 would just one shot it and feel like shitty meat proxy. Truth is, Opus did a lot of thing, but my naïve questions, reframing and "why nots" etc. that unlocked everything.

First, Opus would probably still be burning tokens in loops without me. I would still be writing backup, rollbacks and tooling without it. Also feels LLMs have an extremly "adult" way of "thinking"—answering?—, where I can turn on the six years old in me any time 😅

Funnily enough, AI models are basically children in their training phase, but can't seem to be so anymore at inference stage. I'm not remotely good enough at anything deep learning to know how easy that's solvable, but I feel like it's more of a bottleneck than we can imagine.

6-year-old's birthday is like cashing in compound interest: GMing Dungeons & Kittens, playing Mario Odyssey, testing the bike at the pump track, building giant GraviTrax courses, watching ants in the formicarium… Loved the early days, but this is like sit back and enjoy #parenting!

Second entry on @pckt.blog of the week. I'm on streak 🔥 In this one I kinda disagree with @nodeland.dev take that bootcamp is dead. At least it shouldn't for a certain category of engineers. Will they care training themselve though? That's the tough one. pckt.blog/b/the-couloi...

pckt.blogRise of the half-dev - The CouloirThis article from about six month ago hurted my feelings a bit more than I cared to admit. Mind you, I am a bootcamper and despite having no illusions on the fa...

Like many I was more and more worried: is dev still fun? Am I gonna be a manager/emailer/powerpointer and that's it? There's a wave of vibed project popping up all over the company. All with obvious software flaws. I'm feeling like "hehe, let me show who's the senior". Never bad for confidence.

I mean, with the bloat of bad software coming near production, software engineering and design skills are starting to shine back again. Who knows where this ends.

The more I think about it, the more I see Phoenix as the prefect #atprotodev framework. OTP is perfect for resuming websockets and superivising lots of them. The push layer is built-in, no drizzle, redis, SSE. Time to resume learning Elixir maybe 😅

Ok I thought it was a great idea to start #ttrpg with my 6yo, so I got Dungeons & Kittens. She now wants to play every second day. Making settings for 6yo playing cats is… chaotic at best. I'm like writing all day—in my head at least. WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN INTO? 🙀

BTW, if you happen to think of Linux distros, wether for good or bad reasons, @system76.bsky.social 's Pop_OS is pretty underrated. God tier for gaming, can't see what more I could want for dev… and guess what, it can run a terminal multiplexer (aka. "agentic first workflow").

Fun #atprotodev fact: I really wanted a "syncing to the atmosphere" badge on askimut.at. Did a bit of SSE when the "reindexed" column was good on my side. Pushed the app, went on holiday and 2 days later @tur.so going like "yo, that's out of my free plan"... With 0 users? Wtf?

Didn't realize I was waking up the Jetstream websocket every 10s down the line (the usual idle issue), with a few db read each time : 5M reads/day. Yep with 0 users. That's not gonna work 🤦‍♂️

Did they managed to f*up the Navier-Stokes solutions with corporate bs? I never thought I would see these kinds of results and yet they managed to make it a billionaire dick contest. First they ruin Valiant legacy, now millenia problems. What they have in billions, they lack in taste. 🧐

This is so true. The level of fighting I have to get for it to use browser mode… I sometime write them myself (yes, in 2026, you time travelers).

Artem Zakharchenko@kettanaito.com

If you let your agent write component tests for you, you're in BIG trouble. Why? Because agents were trained on prehistoric tests still using JSDOM. Yikes 🤢 Join me on 📆 October 5th in 🇨🇿 Prague for a live workshop to learn component testing in the real browser with Vitest.
