The % of interest spent from the Norwegian Oil Fund in the national budget is the same as 10 years ago but the monetary value has almost doubled

Share of electric vehicles among new passenger cars in Norway for September was 98.8%, a new record. Electric cars reaches 35.3% of total car population, ahead of diesel and petrol. The UK new car % for April was 40% plug in electric (26.2% of which were fully electric).

Ulf Kristersson concedes defeat.

Christian Christensen@chrchristensen.bsky.social

Swedish media announce Prime Minister Kristersson will concede election & resign. Social Democrat Magdalena Andersson will be asked by Speaker to form new govt that must be passed by parliament. If she can't, offer to try and form govt goes to second largest party. If no-one can do it? New election.

Once again asking why, in the year 2026, Scotland had an election for which every result was publicly "oooh, mystery box! secret! can't tell you what happened except at the overall constituency level!" and then most of our neighbours are just like "hello here's a livemap" www.svt.se/datajournali...

And - despite all the press talking them up this weekend - the far right Sweden Democrats in the exit poll have not only failed to come second but have seen their vote DROP by around 3%.

It is a tighter election than was predicted even just a week ago. The gap got considerably smaller over the final week. The irony of those seeking a Sweden of "the good old days", is that Sweden was dominated by the Social Democrats.

Almost half of Swedes have voted in advance of election day

Sweden, national parliament election today: Total early voting turnout 2014: 36.46% 2018: 38.84% 2022: 40.56% 2026: 45.56% (record high) Valmyndigheten ➤ europeelects.eu/sweden #Sweden

Swedish election day. If polls right then progressive parties should eek out a win, but a very last minute shift towards the right has narrowed the gap. Interesting day to come.

The current govt has been the most right wing in Sweden’s history. If those parties win majority again it could be a disturbing moment. A progressive win would mean Social Democrats in govt in 4 of 5 Nordic countries.

Putin the big winner

Polls have closed in Saxony-Anhalt and exit polls put result on a knife edge (AfD 41 seats, others 42). First projections based on actual results due out soon. But if exit polls are right this is a rupture in the history of the federal republic.

Unless a dramatic swing happens, next Sunday’s election in Sweden looks almost certain to put Magdalena Andersson as PM. Which would mean Social Democrat led govts in 4 of 5 Nordics. A contrast to the prevailing political winds in Germany, France etc.

And it's official - Iceland 🇮🇸 has voted No to restarting EU negotiations: 52.5% / 47.5%. Status quo wins. Iceland of course remains in the EEA and EFTA.

What's particularly interesting is the swing among 18-29 voters in Iceland: went from 60%+ Yes in June poll to 60%+ No in the final polls. Other age groups mostly didn't change.

Brace yourself for a lot of UK commentators, of both sides, trying to project UK politics for the result in Iceland. Most of whom probably had no idea the referendum was even happening until now.

Iceland 🇮🇸 votes today in a pivotal referendum on whether to restart negotiations with the EU for membership. It's the first time Icelanders have voted on EU negotiations. Polls show a near 50-50 split, so impossible to predict. If Yes today, a 2nd referendum would follow the negotiations.

"I was really struck by how much the Finnish education seemed to be focused on raising competent citizens, rather than teaching children academic subjects." Finland Tries to Protect Children Against Deepfakes, With Russia in Mind

nytimes.comFinland Tries to Protect Children Against Deepfakes, With Russia in Mind (Gift Article)Finland, wary of misinformation from Moscow and beyond, has a leg up on other nations in spotting fake news. But A.I. is a whole new challenge.

A main reason for Norwegians against joining is desire to retain national control over their substantial resources. If EU was serious about trying to shift dial on public opinion, it would address that point - it'll be interesting how EU responds similar with Iceland if it's a Yes next month.

I'm quite happy to fully endorse each of Allan's calls for reform here. Each of them would significantly improve the quality of Scottish democracy and the manner in which our elections are reported.

I've written to Jamie Hepburn MSP, the Minister for Parliamentary Business and Veterans (who is responsible for devolved elections), calling for several reforms: replacing deposits, improving Holyrood results publication, co-option for council vacancies, and improving quality of local election data.

The new Danish government on regulating big tech: Denmark will lead in EU on tougher tech regulation including 1️⃣ a ban on additive designs, 2️⃣ an age limit for social media, and 3️⃣ increased taxes for tech companies operating on the European market.

Denmark has a new government, but before the programme is announced, how much do we know? On mobility, one thing is clear: Public transport will be free for young persons (under 22), just like in Scotland. A new report on the effects of the Scottish scheme indicates substantial gains for society.

👇 Excellent thread on new Danish govt, finally formed after 69 days of negotiations. From progressive & climate standpoint, this is potentially a pretty exciting coalition - albeit with questions over it holding the full term. Frederiksen remains arguably most influential politician in Europe.

And #Denmark *finally* has a new government: The Social Democrats (S&D), Socialist People's Party (Greens/EFA), social-liberal Radikale Venstre (RE), & "centrist" Moderates (RE) will form a minority government, relying on support from left-wing parties Enhedslisten (LEFT) & The Alternative. #dkpol
