Mostly writing about Dublin pubs, until the transport operators get accounts so I can moan at them here instead https://everypubindublin.blogspot.com

A planning application has gone in to convert the long closed, once squatted and very derelict Nearys Hotel on Parnell Street to housing; but retaining and extending its also long closed bar in the process.

There is a huge queue for the 'spoons on Abbey Street. Please let Dublin publicans realise that customers still exist, and going ever more premium is not the answer. Some of these may yet be rescued.

This has replaced the not even ten months open The Stapleton. Presumably protecting the VCC brand as the building is for sale.

The Vintage Cocktail Club seems to have somewhat abruptly moved to Powerscourt Townhouse, according to their socials/website. Not sure what's going on with the old venue.

In an extremely unusual outcome, planning has been submitted to convert *from* a bar (the closed 'ohana) *to* office space on Harcourt Street.

The extension of the Marlin hotel in to the once exceptionally derelict set of buildings at 23/24 Aungier Street is going to have a bar, Rafters. The hotel bar isn't much use for non residents, but this is likely to be very open to them

Out of all of Reach PLCs terrible regional "news" sites, they close the only one that ever actually cited me rather than just nicking a story (Galway Beo).

The last pub in Dublin where my most recent visit was under 18 (by three weeks). New names, new owner, and over two decades between visits. It isn't great.

The 1% figure for Dublin is accurate in so far as that many licences remain. It doesn't reflect closures being masked by new hotels and restaurants using pub licences for an easier life - and a handful of new pubs. About 15% of pubs in Dublin have closed over this time www.rte.ie/news/ireland...

rte.ieQuarter of Irish pubs have closed since 2005 - studyA new report shows a rapid decline in the number of pubs in Ireland, with 2,205 premises - or one-in-four - closing their doors since 2005.

Who would have thought the last remnants of the three pubs in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre would be the door down to the basement nightclub. The door to the lift to the upstairs bar, the last to close by many years, is now an ice cream shop

The baffling thing of the IMC Cinema chain having some of the cheapest pints in Dublin - €6 for whatever Heineken Ireland lager keg they have - continues.

When spoons opened up initially here, their Free House tags were mostly pointless. Now with so many pubs having an all bar one tap Heineken, Diageo or C&C lineup its starting to feel like we need a term for bars that sell a range of product, without referring to rare-outside-Cork and dead pub ties

The oddly named D One 5 bar in Castleknock (in D15, but the phrasing of the name is what's odd) closed on Sunday, 11 months exactly after opening. That unit is turning in to a bit of an ejector seat of a pub, with five names in the last 20 years.

Interesting piece in the Irish Times on those who live in the Phoenix Park, other than the politicians (and patients in St Marys). One of my great grandfathers was the head horticulturist and lived in Klondike Lodge when working, and a gatehouse in retirement. www.irishtimes.com/ireland/dubl...

An AI slop poster for a pub 2.4km from Croke Park is telling people to drop in before the "Bon Jovy" gig and that its 2 minutes walk away. Try 30.

The site of the recently closed Pillar Bar has painters in, and recruitment signs for a Kitty O'Sheas. Whether this is the Dublin founded Irish bar chain coming home, or someone else using the same name, I don't yet know.

New Maldron hotel in Drumcondra has a huge, south facing beer garden. It doesn't have sufficient bar staff for a quiet afternoon even though, and my pint cost NINE EURO

Was trying to figure out roughly when an old home movie of my Grandad was taken - was given a copy of it, wasn't one of my own - and having little luck until he happened to specifically mention Liverpool beating Man United in the Charity Shield the previous night. 13th August 2001 it is then!

The Tom Stanley shop in Connolly has "thank you for supporting Irish" signage up, beside CCTV notices saying the data controller is WH Smith and with a UK phone number. At least one of these things does not belong!

Anyone looking for something to do in an air-conditioned conference centre this weekend, I'll be involved in running Brickfeile, a Lego show, in the Citynorth in Gormanston on Friday and Saturday. All the money raised goes to Fairybricks who provide Lego sets to kids hospitals wards.

Plans for its new venue - I haven't got a clue where that could be. I know of various places with permissions that could work for Yamamori itself, but none has any potential for a club.
