Time once again for a Wetherspoon Beer Festival run-down. Here's how it started: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2026/10/the-...

BLOG POST: “It’s exciting to be able to buy imported Helles beers from both Augustiner and Tegernsee at Sainsbury’s, while we’re picking up canned tuna, Woolite and ‘crispy nuggets’. And £3.40 a bottle doesn’t seem like a terrible price, either.” But... boakandbailey.com/2026/10/its-...

The word "ligging" doesn't get much use these days, but me and @lisagrimm.com are in The Cellar Bar at Someone Else's Expense.

I'm sorry, but I don't think github and tech subreddits being flooded with vibe coded programs that won't work outside of the uploader's computer is living "near the digital frontier." It feels more like drinking sewage water and dying of dysentery before even heading out to the frontier.
Bill Gates thinks we need to prepare for roughly two decades of AI disruption, and he says this period could be so painful it might split society in two — between people comfortable living near the technological frontier, and those who reject it. Read, watch, or listen: buff.ly/5e6qf4M
It may be quiet on the @irishfoodwriting.bsky.social account, but we're not eating tumbleweed 😋
Most mornings I'm stopped at Portobello bridge while traffic crosses from Rathmines into town. The bus passengers look like this.
And finally the one that graces the cover of my latest work, In the Name of the Devil, the drawing for The Premature Burial. Here a man lies trapped in his coffin, buried six feet underground and very much still alive. We can see the terror on his face as he awaits his fate
"To reef more money from unsuspecting yanks, perchance to dream."
That whole Masters of Ale thing is something the started this year to reef more money from unsuspecting yanks. There's a talk there at Savour this weekend and I hope one of the speakers might steer the history in the right direction, but I'd say his hands are tied ...
October inevitably means German beer, and the blog has two Bavarian lagers today: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2026/10/wies...
It would be needlessly cruel of me to drip-feed you reviews of the various 4% ABV fruit lagers on the go at the moment. Instead, here's all of the remaining ones I could get my hands on, in a single, ignorable, blog post. [Warning: contains snark] thebeernut.blogspot.com/2026/10/capr...

Good beer and no shortcuts, on the blog today: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2026/10/up-m...
Remember: if it *doesn't* say it's brewed in Ireland, it's not brewed in Ireland. And if it *does* say it's brewed in Enniscorthy, it's brewed in Yorkshire.
I believe you are correct. I'll have to look closer the next time I'm at the beer store. I want to say Connecticut. The only pictures I have are of the front of the cans, and there is a subtle change. From "brewed in Ireland," to "batch brewed Irish style ale"
My extremely down-to-earth local is re-opening as "Poddle's Mill Bar & Kitchen". Welcome to Kimmage: the graveyard of gentrification.
Not been much activity in terms of pub openings for the past while, so I've ended up putting some speculation and unconfirmed stuff on the pipeline: everypubindublin.blogspot.com/p/pub-openin...
