New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

It took me several attempts at reading this to realize this ding dong is saying we’d be in a better reality if Hillary had won in 2008. Fucking wild. I didn’t know anyone was still trying to relitigate 2008

lol oh wait you’re the Won’t Someone Think of the Poor Tesla Owners Guy, hey everybody come and laugh at this fucking dipshit

I genuinely believe the reason Beshear doesn’t get as much national buzz and was never really in the VP conversation in 2024 is because consultants don’t like that he flat out ignores all the shit they would tell him to do in Kentucky and wins anyway by huge margins

He’s certainly not perfect, no one is, but an unabashedly pro-choice and pro-LGBT politician winning in Kentucky absolutely embarrasses the shit out of everything dem consultants stand for

What’s wild is this man could’ve done so much with gifts like these. Once in a generation orator. He still has every bit of juice on his fastball. God what a wasted opportunity

Mix of gravitas, humor, positivity and raw cool that just can’t be equaled. Zohran comes the closest (by far, honestly) but he doesn’t have nearly as much of the first one

By objective standards he’s the best president of my lifetime by light years and I cannot think of a bigger indictment of the American political system than that

It's true. I've watched many people in different sectors choose to do things they sort of know are stupid or ineffectual that a consultant told them to do and they are trying to look good to the consultant or impress them which is some major loser shit.

We were so starved for charismatic politicians that we thought Bill Clinton was magnetic, then this guy came along like the fucking K2 extinction hitting the dinosaurs. You still can’t look away when he speaks

The flags are at this point basically that elevator scene from the shining

This is one of the larger left-of-center Facebook pages, and I do feel like a few years ago, left-of-center people on social media with large audiences were not using terms like “goyslop”?

The Justice Department's last-second letters about noncitizen voting contain people with no history of voting whatsoever, and they're moving so fast they sloppily sent one county the wrong list of names.

One thing that sucks about being a parent is I have to rein in being Ebenezer Scrooge about Halloween for the next like 14 years so I don’t ruin it for her

I’m sorry but I’m gonna keep on this. Like this is back patting from people who want to do nothing about the status quo and feel like heroes for it. The lesser evil does not help the system get better over time, it just is our only fucking choice unless we do something to break that paradigm

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux@bretdevereaux.bsky.social

It is, fundamentally, an exercise of choosing the lesser evil, over and over and over again, so that the total amount of evil in the system decreases over time. And you must keep doing it, because - since evil is easy - good is easily reversed.

I’m not telling anyone not to vote for harm reduction—I vote for harm reduction—but you do not get to feel warm and toasty about it. You do not get to pretend the system is just peachy as is

Imagine still believing in incrementalism post Biden

even abstracted into hypothetical maths this doesn't make any sense. picking the lesser evil still makes things more evil, just by a lesser amount

Like I believe in harm reduction, which is why I keep voting for these absolute shitheads, but the idea picking the lesser evil makes the system better over the long term is fucking insane, no it doesn’t, we just don’t currently have a better choice

Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...
