There was a time, not so long ago, when Republican George W. Bush appointed a Muslim doctor and outstanding scientist Elias Zerhouni, born and raised in Algeria, as Director of the National Institutes of Health (nominated 6 months after 9/11).

Today's NY Times this is probably a story that magnifies what a tiny tiny group of people are thinking but having said that: Platner stans have a lot to answer for

just me I thought hte dems missed an easy layup when they failed to talk rising cost of insurance in 2024 or maybe they did, but since I live in a very blue state , MA, I didn't hear wht people in battleground states heard

House Judiciary Democrats have just released a 50-page report that pulls together years of assault allegations against Trump and his reported connections to Jeffrey Epstein. The report calls for a special counsel to investigate Trump's ties to Epstein.

non scientists the back story here is that in science, it *really matters where you publish a paper in a hi profile journal, like Nature, is worth a lot more to a scientist's career then a paper in a "lesser" journal, on avg so scientists are desperate - not hyperbole - to publish in Nature, so

Today I learned something astonishing from Hyde Most pollsters don't poll in Spanish in Florida surreal as J K Galbraith once said, experts [ pollsters ] can always be wrong

Hyde T. Voltyge@hydevoltyge.bsky.social

Sure! Only the UNF poll is up to snuff on quality in my eyes, most of these didn't poll in Spanish, quite bad to do in Florida. And the early vote looks *that* good. The polls don't appear to have modeled anything remotely like the true electorate. Pegging the partisanship at 2024 is a grave error.

Trusting headlines from the wall str journal is a fool's errand, but if this is true, LMAO that unions in CA are opposed to billionaires tax and no one on bluesky or mastodon ever ever mentions that

In volleyball, as in Tennis and Basketball, height is a real advantage because you have to be able to get your arm over the net, if you are on the front row since men are, on average, taller then women, in elite vball, that gives men an edge

I am so old, I remember when "made in Japan" mean't cheap and tinny (tinny as in cheap metal toys)

BWJones@bwjones.bsky.social

Do you remember the perception that goods from China were “cheap” and of suspect quality? That you’d not want to use critical materials/food/pharma of Chinese origin? I just realized that I’ve made that association with America goods/materials when having a choice between US and European suppliers.

the lack of attn given to this imp story is why no one should take politics on bluesky seriously, it is mostly just cosplay left wing performance outrage

kids this car may look cool, but you would not believe how crappy it was drove like a marshmallow, the drum brakes "faded" in the rain (LOL), no airbags, no crumple zone to keep the steering wheel from crushing you in a front end collison, horrible gas mileage, quality sucked - if

this car was still running wiht 100,000 miles on the clock, the local news paper (what we had before FB) would write up a little story and if by some miracle, like you were literally a NASA engineer and managed to keep it going for 200K the whole town would salute you in the july 4th parade and not

to mention the shitty bias ply tires and the rear window wasn't made of "safety" glass so if it shattered in a collision razor sharp pieces of glass would slice your body this actually happened to someone I know and it was HORRIBLE and probably 100 other things I've forgotten about

I hate this noble savage shit so much. Americans do not think Cheesecake Factory is a nice and fancy restaurant. Just because people eat there because they can afford it does not mean they think it's nice. People aren't stupid. They know what a fancy restaurant is.

I was watching Ghostbusters on TV, Disney/ABC and one of the ads was for Google's personal AI, how it can do marvelous things like order school supplies for you And it seems such a desperate attempt to get back to the early 2000s, when new tech was cool and everyone wanted the latest thing well,

why is this post so incredibly valuable ? 31% of Americans claim they have never heard of Pete Hegseth, and 20% claim they have never heard of RFK jr so when you scratch your head and wonder, how on earth can someone vote for Trump well, ignorance is the answer

this is just utter nonsense as Herbert Simon famously said, if something can't go on forever, it won't The data center boom is slowing down, a lot, cause the money is running out (more accurately, the interest rate on loans for construction has skyrocketed)

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

the data centre boom runs on gas and *it is a gas* - it expands to fill every single space that it can. You can hand big tech a million gigs of renewables and they'll take it, and still build a million more of fossil fuels anyway. There is no upper limit.

We need a better way to talk about EV drives. If Rolls Royce says "This car has a 6.7 liter V12" everyone's all "oooh" and "aahhhh," "amazing." If they say "it's an EV" people are just like "....k?" Gotta say something like, "It's a triple-0 helix encabulator" or whatever. That'll get people buying

Alan / Former Instants@formerinstants.bsky.social

EVs have a higher baseline of luxury due to the natural smoothness and quietude of an EV drivetrain. An EV Rolls Royce would be the ultimate luxury car, but RR customers are too boomer-brained to realize this. They do not want luxury, they want prestige.

Many of you don't like the NYT or other mainstream media cause you feel it is to easy on the right wing and I think yo ar correct on the other hand, this sort of post is worse how on earth does Mr Chadbourn know anything at all about what Elon Musk is thinking ? @chadbourn.bsky.social
