There's a guy theoretically giving out bibles on campus, but he's not actually trying. He's just sitting on a stool beside a box full of bibles. He said good morning to me, I said it back, and that was the end of the conversation. I guess he's waiting for people to ask first. Which, like...respect.
I am once again begging Americans to understand that speeding/red light cameras which only do anything if someone is speeding/goes through a red light, *are not the same thing* as Flock-style ALPR cameras.
My kingdom for a candle dye that is just brown. Not reddish-brown, not yellowish-brown, not purpleish-brown, just...brown. It's the Avatar bear of candle colors.
Accidentally called Brooks a "sweet puppy" instead of a "sweet kitty" and the look he gave me was strong evidence in favor of my theory that cats can understand English
I'm enjoying learning about herd and farm animals in my Vet class way more than domestic animals. I think it's just because I knew a lot less about them to start with, so there's more new stuff to discover. I was doing some reading at my mom's house earlier and I kept quoting her interesting herd
animal facts, and she was like, "You went into this field to get a job in town working with cats and dogs, but in five years, you're gonna be riding around in a van in Oklahoma doing checkups on sheep"
Do any of you autistic nerds have experience with fidget toys? When I'm sitting in class, I pick my fingernails until they bleed because the vyvanse fills me with nervous energy. I need an alternative, preferably something fairly discreet. Not looking like a baby toy is a bonus but not a requirement
the thing i can't get over is that geller had to have known this would get out. he could have had a normal life after dodging this bullet, but instead decided to become an influencer in left/lib spaces where he must've known discovery of this was death of his career. psychotic
Adventures in emailing my professors:
"Hi Ms. Smith,
I'm in your FYE class, and I'm not sure if I'm doing the High5 strength report right. Is there supposed to be more information than this? I'm not really sure what it means that I'm a "time keeper" or a "catalyst." Thank you!"
Response:
"Hi Faith,
Thanks for checking in. These are your results from the High 5 test, revealing all your strengths. 😊 That’s awesome!
Your strengths are:
Philomath
Thinker
Empathizer
Time Keeper
Catalyst
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you,
Jen"
Went to see Resident Evil with a buddy and had a blast. Recent trends have left a gap in one of the most important horror niches: slimy, quippy action horror that focuses more on being a rollicking good time than it does on being high cinema. Like, is it a great movie? No! And thank god!
I didn't go to see a video game film adaptation to experience art. I went to laugh and cheer and scream and almost throw my popcorn on the person in the seat behind me. That was delivered in spades. On that front, 5 out of 5 stars, zero notes.
Has anyone ever had a better job than Chairman Kaga from Iron Chef? Show up at the beginning of the episode to wear fabulous clothes and start the match, show up at the end to eat delicious food without having to judge it. Shout at the top of his lungs in the worst French anyone has ever Frenched
Look cool and mysterious while taking a bite out of a raw bell pepper. A billionaire who spent his fortune on a sports arena for cooking contests. The only rich guy to ever do it right.
Does anyone remember the episode of Mad Men where Ginsberg goes crazy and Peggy is horrified and it ends with her glaring at the room-sized computer recently installed in the office because it was the precipitating event of the craziness?
I am Peggy and the computer is AI and this fucking sucks
This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.

It still makes me really happy that Richard Karn decided to tell everyone he wasn't going to do NFTs with a smiling picture of himself. What a great way to do anything.
i used to like apocalyptic books and movies, but i don't now, and i think it's cause i realized five years ago that if the apocalypse happens i'll still have to work
I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽♀️
Hey, if anyone feels like taking 30 seconds to answer a short survey I made for my Sociology class, I would really appreciate it! I'm supposed to get ten responses by the 19th. Thanks guys! forms.cloud.microsoft/r/HAShjWTV8r
Thank you to everyone who responded! Also, I feel I should clarify that I didn't *write* the survey, I was instructed to copy it verbatim into Microsoft Forms so we can learn about surveys generally. I feel like question six is really dumb and I don't want y'all to think I came up with it.
We did a peer review of an essay we wrote in my English class. The one I got, I wrote all over - spelling and grammar corrections, questions, suggestions for rephrasing and edits for clarity. There was an additional handout for extra notes and I wrote a few paragraphs on that too.
Also, based on the grammar mistakes I witnessed from my reviewer and the person I reviewed, a lot of stuff apparently didn't sink in the first time around, so how about we take advantage of this rare opportunity to brush up on how possessive apostrophes work in a non-judgmental environment, huh?
I'm just grouchy I have to do all this crap before I can start real classes. I'm trying to take it seriously because there must be SOME reason they're making me do imperial/metric conversions, but it's hard not to resent the fact that I could be learning how to descale a dog's teeth right now

I'm twice these kids' age and I've been writing for a long time, so I don't feel that I need a lot of help, and I wrote a pretty clean first draft that didn't leave a lot of room for suggestions. It's just that we had an hour and I stopped hearing pencil sounds after like, the five minute mark.
This is a required core gen ed that covers stuff I'm pretty sure I learned sophomore year of high school. Frankly, I don't know why any of us are being made to take this class. I do understand why the level of classroom engagement is in the negatives. But like, still. We are paying to be here, guys.

After class, the girl whose paper I got came up and thanked me enthusiastically for all my feedback. Meanwhile, this is what I got. My four-page essay had not a single mark on it, so the handout contains the totality of feedback from my peer reviewer.
