🤔How does the human brain predict unexpected sounds?
Our new study shows that the prefrontal cortex doesn’t work as a single unit. Instead, the orbitofrontal and lateral prefrontal cortex make distinct, time-sensitive contributions. #iEEG#BrainLesion#OFC#LPFCdoi.org/10.1101/2025...
Job alert 🚨 Fully funded PhD position available in our Maastricht lab! Are you interested in predictive processing, individual differences, and computational modelling of behavioural and neural data? Please apply! #NeuroJobsvacancies.maastrichtuniversity.nl/job/Maastric...
Just a couple days left to apply for this position! Come work with me @fedemar.bsky.social, @predictivebrain.bsky.social & Sonja Kotz to investigate the neural-circuitry underlying of perceptual inference
🚨PhD position alert!🚨
Joint PhD position with @fedemar.bsky.social@predictivebrain.bsky.social and Sonja Kotz, to investigate the neurobiological underpinnings of perceptual decisions

Really glad my first MEG paper is out! Orientation-specific sensory signals accompanied falsely perceived gratings, and a shared perceptual confidence code was present on FA and veridical trials. We also found a unique role for increased beta oscillations preceding high confidence FA. Read for more!
A bit less than 2 weeks left to apply for this position! If you are interested in perceptual decisions, top-down modulations, predictions, laminar fMRI - join us for what will be a great collaborative project!

It is really sad how when departments tolerate just one or two bullies, it can completely destroy a place over time, but so many institutes do it anyway 🧪🎢🔭

Academia: I give you the freedom to work flexibly and be in charge of how you spend your time
me: great, thanks
Also Academia: Please do these 45 things by tomorrow, also you have class today, did you prep?
Thanks to the continued support from many people, ten days ago I gave my inaugural lecture as professors of sensory circuits and neuro-imaging maastricht university. Was a fun experience, humbling and emotional in many ways…
We are looking for enthusiastic new colleagues!!! Please consider applying if you are a junior cognitive scientists looking for a position that would allow you to develop your ideas and building your lab…
Are you a cognitive scientist with an interest in developing your own research line using neuroimaging as a tool, and in particular MRI and fMRI (at ultra high fields)? Come join the CN department at the FPN faculty of Maastricht University!!!

There is still time to apply for this permanent position at our department in Maastricht. Is a great opportunity for those that like to develop methods in cognitive neuroscience and that may not like the prospect of having to write grants….
Do you like to work in collaboration with others, developing methods and approaches?
The CN department at the FPN faculty of maastricht university is looking for a permanent data scientist with a reduced focus on grant(s) acquisition.

3. The proportion of papers sent to review is unchanged. This seems like bad news. One potential failure mode for new eLife is that nothing changes, except that all power moves from editor+reviewers together to just editor. This number suggests that may be the case.
Things universities have tried to encourage more grant submissions:
- improving my "research key words"
- offering internal grants for not much money, faculty salary support is not allowed
- sending out weekly email lists of funding opportunities
Things that would actually help:
- free child care
