Critical support to Hasan, i hope he takes them for every penny

Obama's politics are middling at best but I'll be damned if he isn't one of the most charismatic guys alive

“He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened up a Cheesecake Factory” — Obama

Love to see my high school in the news

“She would definitely let us all f—— her,” a Timberline student allegedly wrote. “(You) think Cornell was bad just wait for us.” buff.ly/tSW2crX

Saying that Zionism is racism is like saying Communism is totalitarianism. Both are 19th century ideologies that generated wide sympathy and were seen as progressive, and when put to practice to create and reshape states, created enormous injustice. 1/

The only thing I’ll say about the Globe story is you encounter a lot of businesses in Ithaca that don’t seem particularly interested in making money and more often than not they convince you that the profit motive is not the worst thing in the world

This is why diaspora Judaism is the perfect religion

William B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social

my most reditt-atheist but also not view is that a lapsed or secular [faith] is the ideal theological disposition for a democratic subject. enough relation to religion to provide a metaphysical superstructure and pro-social shame, not enough that you start wanting to burn heretics.

Don't Blame Me I voted for Lisa Raymond

Tucker Jones@tuckerjones.bsky.social

I'm certainly open to the idea of social housing in DC, but I see no reason to partially freeze the housing stock (and maintain or exacerbate the housing affordability crisis) until such a social housing agency one day comes online.

Land value tax would fix this

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

Okay, let’s frame this differently: how should local governments fund public services, including infrastructure, first responders, teacher pay and public schools, and so forth? If you were in charge of a mid-sized city in Ohio or Michigan and needed to pay for these things, how would you?

Elite insularity is basically the norm historically. The main thing that's different right now is that we can all gawk at home insane they are rather than being illiterate peasants

This post is unavailable.

It used to be either the elite were either openly obsessed with insane byzantine psychodramas at the expense of all else, or the average citizen can read about this in the newspaper. Now we get both!

This maybe overstates the extent to which the terror was ideological at all. It was first and foremost an extremely bloody counterinsurgency campaign waged and domestic insurrectionaries

Doctor Charlton Cussans PhD@charltoncussans.bsky.social

Constant's argument was that the Terror was not driven by a desire to protect a liberal parliamentary republic that divides the public and private spheres, but rather to murder France to a place where there was no distinction between spheres, where politics was a constant all encompassing process.

Harry Potter was so popular it (temporarily) reversed the decades long decline in reading

River_Tam@rivertam.bsky.social

The idea that Harry Potter became popular because of a massive marketing budget is cope. I was there. It was an insane phenomenon. There were kids who had never read a book before bragging that their aunt was traveling to England so she was picking up Book 2 before it made it to America.

I believe I'd be working for the Chicago's baker union. Not a bad gig!

Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?

This is kinda a crazy take to me. "The Fall of Reach" has only like 50 pages about the actual battle of Reach, all of which takes place in orbit

This post is unavailable.

There's definitely room to talk about how Bungie's antagonism towards any other Halo stories was super harmful, but it's not exactly a shocker they chose to rewrite the story for Reach

95% of the time I don't think there's /that/ much wrong with reading problematic authors, but for JKR every dollar you spend on her funds a genocidal campaign against trans people

Asher HELLbein@asherelbein.bsky.social

Both are, at this point, crazy and evil people, but the thing about J.K Rowling that I find striking is that there is a visibly hedonic quality to her online viciousness that you don't really see in someone like Elon Musk. (Though not for the latter's lack of trying.)

New York will impose a yearlong moratorium on new energy-intensive data centers, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday — the first such ban in the country as officials scrutinize the burgeoning sites’ impact on local environments. www.thecityreporter.nyc/2026/07/14/a...

Critical support to the Trump administration for denying rural areas internet access

Stacy Mitchell@stacyfmitchell.bsky.social

Amid all the corruption, this is especially gross: the billions Congress/Biden approved to build fiber internet in places left behind has been redirected to Elon Musk & Jeff Bezos for doing nothing. Musk has pocketed $738 million so far. Places like rural Louisiana were screwed.

If you're a pitcher for the Washington Nationals you really can't be talking shit to anyone

Alex Kirshner@alexkirshner.com

Here's Cade Cavalli striking out Willson Contreras and screaming "sit down boy!" at him. Really nice and a great week for it. Does Manfred 1) do the obvious thing or 2) do nothing because he doesn't want a Turning Point spokesman to do a viral tweet about how he won't watch baseball anymore

Absolutely catastrophic management from Sony here. What are they thinking

Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social

Bungie is laying off a significant number of people today. Exact number isn't clear yet, but employees are being informed this morning.
