If you had told teenage Fish they'd be traveling to take photos and would be connected enough to get 4 badge ribbons in the future, he would have self deprecatingly laughed it off. If you stopped me to say hi, walk around the venue, or share a meal together, it means more to me than you know ๐Ÿ’œ

Special SO to all the Fatales for being so welcoming and whoever ran over to the photo station to drop off the ratales badge (sorry I didn't get your name!) ๐Ÿ’œ

I say it every event but we have a really good team of photographers that are consistently coming to events now and it's always great to see them all growing and practicing their craft! It's so easy to coast now that we're doing well but I still need to find ways to push myself to improve as well!

ok two hours later and i'm still falling asleep after a viet coffee so I will leave you with some of my favorites from the week ๐Ÿซก see you all in Atlanta!

Conversely, there are times when you stick around but then nothing happens or like friday night went we were hoping the $2mil milestone would get hit but it didn't happen. It's times like those where I'm truly grateful to be working on a team and can cover for each other.

The MSF mini-doc was really powerful moment and the photo team quickly agreed that this one of those rare moments that didn't need to be captured. bsky.app/profile/fish...

On a more serious note, after Sent's final official prize segment, the interstitial team all came over and many tears were shed. While I did take photos of it happening, (the group photo made it into the album) you come to realize sometimes there are moments that are best left private.

Unrelated to anything, I really like this picture because something about the ever so slight smile on Jon's face makes me think he's having the time of his life getting this camera set up for the pinball run

One of the toughest part of event photography is deciding when to stick around in hopes that a good photo opportunity will come along. Sticking around for an entire run or for milestones completions meant I got some awesome shots but who knows what you missed out on elsewhere (cont.)

Speaking of arcade, I got some of my favorite arcade shots in a long time! The first WACCA shot is something I've been after for a while, showing hand movement blur along with a seemingly complex pattern (usually people really static or blocking the screen). The other photos are just cool lol

One "trap" that I sometimes fall into is getting a really cool shot one event and then trying to replicate it at future events, even though it usually doesn't end up working out/looking the same. Guess it doesn't hurt to practice ๐Ÿ™ƒ

artist alley still confuses me. It's this weird "in between" where I can't do my standard hang back and zoom in because there's too many people in the way but don't want to get all the way up in people's faces either. I sorta found a sweetspot using a 12-24mm this time around

Tried something different in the arcade and tried shooting through/in between as many objects as I could. Most of them didn't really turn out but it was a fun experiment. I think these two photos were the only two that turned out.

An underrated soft skills of photography is being aware of your surroundings. Not just so you're getting out of people's way but so you can grab photos of things that might go unnoticed. This is why you might see a series of photos from a run broken up by a seemingly random shot (cont.)

... There were so many times were I was on the opposite site of the stage when I could have been focusing on getting reaction shots of the live run but then you might miss out on little things going on on the other side of the stage.

Stage lighting improved a lot this year with octo and rectangle boxes and the center divider being removed which allow me to get a few cool blacklit shots from the other side of the stage during runs. I don't think I took advantage of the center curtain being down as much as i would have liked

I was gonna work on my photo recap thread this weekend but some sort of cold got me so i will be sleeping instead ๐Ÿ˜ด
