Clarence Thomas says the 14th Amendment should be read narrowly because it was written for formerly enslaved people. By that logic, the 2nd Amendment was written for muskets, not AR-15s. Funny how that kind of originalism only shows up when it's convenient.

There’s no reason to think Mythos/Fable is the most powerful model out there. Would be better for it to be usefully employed tracking down problems than sitting idle while some state actor uses its own version to find zero-days… Then again, we’re the bad guys in this scenario so nvm I guess

Incredibly dystopian timeline. I do not understand how we are tolerating the sort of condescending, royalist bullshit emanating from our political class being aimed at our friends and neighbors. Sic semper tyrannis.

Brooke Rollins on farm laborers: "There will be no amnesty. The mass deportations continue, but in a strategic way. And we move the workforce toward automation and 100% American participation, which with 34 million able-bodied on Medicaid we should be able to do fairly quickly."

When experts warned for months that the NWS “is being destroyed” by Trump’s personnel cuts, Howard Lutnick assured Congress that forecasting won’t be affected. Now TX officials are blaming a faulty forecast by NWS for the deadly impact of a storm. open.substack.com/pub/meidasto...

Worth a watch: Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

For decades, Iran has been "months away" from building The Bomb, enjoying the benefits of nuclear deterrence without having actually go to the trouble and expense of building and maintaining the goddamn thing. But now? They'd be utterly irrational NOT to build it. Donald Trump is a fucking moron.

“Nobody is talking to Hegseth.” So, as we teeter on the edge of war with Iran, we learn that the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the commander of U.S. Central Command, are brushing aside …. our Secretary of Defense. Free link wapo.st/4n6OyBh

Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.

Grossly escalatory and illegal Sunday Noem letter to Hegseth requested DoD give "direction to DoD forces to either detain, just as they would at any federal facility guarded by military, lawbreakers under Title 18 until they can be arrested and processed by federal law enforcement, or arrest them."

sfchronicle.comExclusive: DHS secretary seeks military arrests in Los Angeles in leaked letterThe military is generally barred from domestic law enforcement. Kristi Noem’s request may be a step toward the Trump administration sidestepping those laws by invoking the Insurrection Act.

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.” They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

Let’s be very clear: Los Angeles is the perfect place for this to play out for the Trumpists. The Trumpists hate California and hate Los Angeles and a vast amount of their base feels the same — even the Trumpists here, who wallow in hating the place they live. /1

The administration gets closer to using the military to crush civilian dissent. Expect deaths, disappearances, and lawless detentions.

The entire Right gets on my nerves more often than not In a way that's hard to pinpoint down to one cause and isn't reducible to Trump (who's doing some reasonable things and some terrible things). Other factors: 1. The rise of racism, esp. the IQ/eugenic variety. Always there, now *overt*. 1/x

I think the reason society feels kind of directionless is that our stories around where we’re heading are oscillating between a sort of toxic, dehumanizing futurism and fetishistic trad wife regressivism. We need better North Stars.

The losses expected by cuts in the IRS are more than twice the annual compensation to all federal workers. Trump is cutting important services to the American people and making us pay for it.

C-Bo the Eggman@cbotheeggman.bsky.social

No DOGE savings at all. It's all a complete lie. All they've done is fire qualified workers while not actually cutting spending at all.

Total federal spending is up +8% in 2025 year-to-date on April 9 over 2024. The illusion that the fed govt is tightening its belt is contradicted by its own real-time expenditure data. Admin spectacularly hammering some things but raising spending elsewhere. Was -7% just after Inauguration Day.
