Today there are 325 Kakapos in New Zealand. In 1995, when I was 10, there were only 51 left. Huge conservation efforts were made to save them πŸ’š

Recording devices have gotten better in quality to record amazing birdsongs. Internet for being able to keep contact with friends. As a disabled fur, am happy there are places like social areas for us to be able to do work in our way. More awarness about depression.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Some will go, and will stay If I make a mess will you wait for me? 'Cause I have to go Keep your spirits high, and your demons low They're not dead, they're only sleeping So keep your voice down –Devin Townsend Project, Secret Sciences (Transcendence, 2016)

Another cool thing with Blyth's Reed Warblers is how sometimes they are sneaky birds and take snippets from mimicries to make a totally new melodic sound!! When I started to write out another rhythm, I noticed this use! I instantly remembered "niiduvee" mimicry! #birds #FlackoWeasel

This is HOW I do the onomatopoeias! I want each individual Blyth's reed warbler unique rhythms to stand out, so I always add 2-4 one of a kind rhythms on the picture. Listening one by one to get precise written sound. I have synesthesia. #birds #FlackoWeasel #Blythsreedwarbler #birdsong

By separating the sound and listening one by one, you are able to hear it, as your brain starts to remember "wait hang on, it's this sound!" Sometimes when bird does many mimicries in a row, its hard to pinpoint it at first. Can you hear the hidden blue tit "psi psi tititirrrr" mimicry? #birds

It wasn't even a full mimicry, but half sung, even onomatopoeia is ripped in half there to show it! You only heard "psi psi ti..." before he added new mimicry on top of it! I only spotted it because I went one sound at a time and spotted that half sung blue tit mimicry! #birds #FlackoWeasel

I find BRWs so fascinating because of their rhythm making AND doing complete new melodies by combining learnt mimicries into a catchy rhythm! Being familiar with bird sounds make you able to spot this! Sometimes there is like less than a second of mimicry hidden between 2 other sounds. #birds

If BRW mimics "KuthΓ€iKu" that is always siskin mimicry and that mimicry is ALWAYS written as "kuthΓ€i Ku" (And not kuthΓ€iTU - he repeats the first "ku" again at the end!!) On illustrations I write out different variants of the rhythms, when same mimicry is used.

bsky.app/profile/flac... Like here is an example when same mimicry was used by 4 different BRWs! I used to write it as "Khhriil" and I NOW realised it's the same mimicry as "Trrui" and "Trrii". Far away sounds can sound different and its harder to hear the detail.

THAT's why onomatopoeias matter SO SO MUCh when I wanna map out each unique sound from BRWs. Here is example what I mean. Same bassy metallic sound "TRRI" done by different BRWs 1. Viilerole - Trri t t TRRiits tiu 2. Bouncy Squeaker - TRRui TRRui 3. Risvei - Trrri Trrri 4. Tevetiu - "TRRiits tiu

Brain is also sometimes an asshole, making SAME sound i heard yesterday, be heard totally different and then I have like 5 files named "phΓΆ" and 3 sounds sound totally different... I need to have a MASTER MIMICRY for each sound what always corresponds to THAT sound. Always.

Each separate sound HAS to stand out so I do NOT mix it up with any other sound. Variants can happen and some I draw out to show that same sound can be sung different way, as the original bird sung it that way!! BRW just copy the snippet of the bird, like if we would sample a music sound!

Each onomatopoeia is hand drawn precisely to the sound I put on the image what is unique to that specific BRW. I go beep after beep and draw it out. I add colour, elements and sometimes illustrations what remind me something with that sound. it helps me ASAP to recall the occuring sound!

My videos have proven this again and again, that's why I do this and that's why I LOVE DOCUMENTING THIS BIRD!! Just check out the HUGE BRW collection I have collected since 2017! After 2022 I have done more revisits to same individuals! www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Found out there was a tiny mistake with an onomatopoeia named "Trri"and "Trriits". I found out it is the same sound I have drawn before as "Krrill" . When looking spectrograms, the shapes and sounds match! It is the metallic bassy sound! Chaotic BRW used that sound in 2023 making amazing dubstep

Viilerole is 3rd Blyth's reed warbler and sadly I only met him once! I couldn't get more of his bΓ€nger songs :C I friggin love his "Trrri t t Trrrits tiu" rhythm and "Jaovi piski jaovi piski!" rhythm. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a7l... #birds #Nightsingers2026 #FlackoWeasel #Blythsreedwarbler
