I think what strikes me most about the segments is just that they all seem kinda undercooked? I can imagine any of these being a good v/h/s segment if there’d been more work on the script/plot outline.

i remember this magazine cover! i was sixteen, and in the nebulous zone of "not out per se, not not out per se, nearly everyone who looks at me understands there to be SOMETHING going on, even if it's hard to say what"

In 2005, Time Magazine did a cover story on “The Battle Over Gay Teens.” It’s the same handwringing we see now from “concerned” adults on behalf of young people. “Kids are disclosing their homosexuality with unprecedented regularity–and they are doing so much younger.” time.com/archive/6596...

50. The Chromatic Fantasy by H.A. THIS BOOK IS LIKE A FEVER DREAM. Ex-nun trans man meets thief & shenanigans ensue. THE COLORS ARE SO RICH AND THE SENSE OF HUMOR SO PERFECTLY TWISTED. I LOVE JULES AND CASPER SO MUCH THEY MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS.

58. Everyone on the Moon is Essential Personnel by Julian K. Jarboe There is a lot of SUPER WEIRD SHIT happening in these stories, generally queer, often happening in some margin of a capitalist hellscape. Including THE ALL CAPS RANTING CLIMATE CATASTROPHE OF MY DREAMS.

67. LOTE by Shola von Reinhold I CANNOT BE COHERENT IN MY LOVE FOR THIS BOOK. Art & art speak & what art is for & the value of beauty and how we interact with it & also art theory & self-invention & SO MUCH racism. And gatekeeping. SO MUCH GATEKEEPING. I NEED THOUSANDS OF WORDS FOR THIS.

73. An Unkindness of Ghosts by @riverssolomon.bsky.social Speaking of authors who need multiple mentions on this list... Similar themes to Sorrowland mentioned above, but swap out the religious community for a generation ship. Aster is a MAGNIFICENT protagonist. One of my favorite books forever.

akashicbooks.comAn Unkindness of GhostsA breathtaking science fiction debut from a worthy successor to Octavia Butler. *While supplies last, books ordered through the website will include a bookplate SIGNED by Rivers Solomon!

Obvious solution: let me do a Pinky and the Brain comic and I'll do a parody, following the Animaniacs tradition of parodying things the target audience could not know or care about

I wish I had the art chops to do a graphic novel adaptation of Riddley Walker but I'm not there yet Someday
