1/ Why does predicting in latent space (JEPA, CPC, SimCLR...) work so well on messy data, with changing lighting, camera angles, and busy backgrounds? The usual answer: it can ignore nuisance. But that answer holds a conundrum.

Congratulations to the 2026 Nobel laureates! Optogenetics has become a powerful tool for neurobiologists at the FMI to explore neural circuits and understand how the brain works.🧠

Thomä lab@labthoma.bsky.social

Huge congratulations to Dr. Pius Galli on successfully defending his PhD at @biozentrum.unibas.ch! 🎉👏 Halfway through his PhD, Pius moved from FMI @fmiscience.bsky.social in Basel to EPFL, where he completed the final part of his research.

Ubiquitin usually works by attaching to proteins, but it can also exist freely in cells. FMI researchers & collaborators developed a new tool to detect this elusive form, revealing that free ubiquitin accumulates around protein aggregates and in influenza virus particles. www.fmi.ch/news-events/...
