I had a dream last night where I went backcountry snowboarding at night with a bunch of people from Mastodon. I had forgotten my high-viz and was terrified of getting shot by hunters. Also I think we were in Quebec?

Driving down to Hartford for an animal study. There's something really nice about being up and about before dawn and listening to spacy post-rock.

Starting my day with a hot cup of "Explaining to a principal software test engineer the meaning of the word 'regression'"

I had originally planned to sell off all of the old Cognivive test devices at the MIT Flea today. A family schedule SNAFU put the brakes on that, but we ended up having brunch with my brother and I got to make a pretty solid chicken dinner instead. Could be worse.

I also started on Christmas presents this week using the literal 20 pounds of chili peppers I was given recently. Ajvar (Balkan red pepper sauce) and cherry pepper relish are done and ready to be canned this week!

First WFH day at my new house. I'm pretty stoked on my new desk setup. Now if I could just get all this junk off of it. And get a dock for my laptop. But otherwise it's a pretty sweet little corner.

Browsing Craigslist in Camberville is wild because you'll hit one of the bubbles on the map and it'll split into one post selling a Herman Miller coffee table for $1500 and another post offering a chunk of plywood on top of some plastic tote bins for $10.

It's taken 6 years, but I think they've finally made a COVID vaccine that doesn't make me feel like dogshit after getting it.

I'm very thankful that the good scientists of Moderna have isolated the dogshit gene from the mRNA and now I can enjoy my Friday night.

I heard recently that the phenomenon of food bloggers writing short novellas before getting to a recipe was essentially to appease the SEO gods. I wonder if the modern phenomenon of physical cookbooks being 40-50% prose is following on from that.

I should note that I don't endorse this music, but I think it's fair to share it if I'm going to talk about it. I should also note that if Spotify really thinks this is what I want to hear after a Bell Witch album they're... quite wrong.

Semi serious question: did COVID kill haggling? I ran a yard sale today and like one person out of maybe 60 tried to haggle with me.

Anyone who pays attention to the #NFL has one or two conspiracy theories about it. Mine is that the London games started when some exec moved from California to New York and really missed football brunches. #football

Also I code review AI PRs every day already. It's called "What my job is now that Anthropic has infected my entire team"

I had a dream that Bill Burr died. I don't really know how I'd feel about that IRL if it did happen, but it was a very weird topic for my brain to pick and discuss last night.

I'm so old, I remember when software that spread into the wild and infiltrated other people's computers and did harmful things to them that the users didn't ask it to was called "malware" instead of "AI" and the people that spread it were prosecuted instead of given billions in venture capital [โ€ฆ]

I challenge anyone to listen to Behemoth's cover of "In League With Satan" and take the whole "I'm so evil" schtick that metal bands do seriously after that. And I say this as an enjoyer of both Behemoth and said schtick. #music #metal

My mother is freaking out because the salt marshes near her in Eastham are gonna overrun the road, my brother is sending me videos of breakers hitting the sea wall down on Quincy Shore Drive, and I'm sitting here like "Ah, damn, that traffic cone across the street fell over" #mawx

One of our hardware engineers was testing ablation catheters against chicken cutlets last night and apparently forgot to clean up his workbench. The lab (which I need to work in all day) now smells like a dead rat. So there's that

I don't think I will ever understand how the beginning and the end of the conversation wasn't "They let a million of us die".

Watched some guy run a red light and almost splatter an old lady this morning. When I told him what kind of person I thought he was, he kinda slumped his shoulders like "yeah, I guess so". If you're going to be an asshole, at least be self-aware.

I have a friend who really wants to try Blue Prince (the puzzle game). Unfortunately they don't have a console or a Steam account (and can't get one for reasons). Anybody know how else they might be able to play it?

Yesterday, after 20 years of hosting cookouts, I finally prepared the exact right amount of food for the crowd. Everyone got to eat, and take a plate home, and we only had enough leftovers for one meal, in perfect meal-proportions. #food #bbq

My brother and SIL got me a Miyoo Plus for my birthday. I *know* someone on here knows all the cool stuff I can do with it (and some good ROM sources). Catch me up! #retrogaming #raspi #miyoo

I went to Savenor's today to stock up for my birthday party this weekend and ended up shooting the shit with one of the butchers for 20 minutes. I feel like this is a bigger indicator that I'm almost 40 than the actual calendar.

Watched Onslaught tonight (in a completely empty Apple Cinemas for $8, BTW). It definitely had something very serious to say, but it tried to hide it behind a drugged out B plot and Eric Wareheim doing his thing. End result wasn't as coherent as I wished it would be.
