There are a lot of things to be annoyed about with AI, but one of the ones I keep bumping into is AI text. The thing is, I have to read some chunk of it before I clock that it's AI, and then I just feel annoyed by the whole experience - it's like I fell for a spam call.

Steam Next Fest is still ongoing. One More Adventure is in it, and it having, well, minimal traction. I'm thinking a classic RPG / OSR type game just isn't the vibe for Next Fest, and I'm OK with that at this point. The game is fun though, and if it sounds like your jam, you should check it out.

Next Fest is upon us! If you're interested in turn-based RPGs and like quests about the evils of the insurance industry, you might find yourself interested in One More Adventure - the demo is up now, and the full game launches on November 10th. store.steampowered.com/app/4546340/...

I wanted to take a minute to write about something I'm starting to clock, re: the business practices of the AI industry and commercial EMS in rural America. I was an EMT in Upstate NY where the majority of EMS services were volunteer agencies. I spent years as a Paramedic in Kentucky, and now...

I kinda have a hunch this is what we're seeing with AI. Super reduced rates until the programmers either leave the industry or have had their skills atrophy to a point that they truly do need the AI. Once there's no competition left, in volunteer EMS or human programmers, the rates suddenly spike.

Anyway, that's my own take only. The death of volunteer EMS in rural America is a real problem (one I think can only be resolved via incorporating EMS into Universal Healthcare, but I digress) that I can speak intelligently on. The AI stuff is just some dude thinking out loud.

While true, there was another pathway for Volunteer EMS to die, and this is what I see with AI too. Commercial agencies would come in and say, "Hey, your crews are getting old, they won't be around forever, and they can't always get out. Let us have a 5 year contract at a discount rate."

The thing was, the volunteers wouldn't maintain their certifications for that duration, because the commercial had the runs, so why would they? By the time the 5 year contract was up, all the volunteers certs had expired. There were no EMTs left.

EMS is expensive. I recall 20 years ago sitting in a village board meeting where the estimate was $1 million / ambulance / year. Numbers have only gone up since then. Volunteers have, for decades, plugged that gap, but have aged out or demographic'd out. (I myself left for Louisville.)

It's #turnbasedthursday , and there are some fantastic games out there that are easy on the hands and engaging to play! My own offering to the genre is One More Adventure, coming out in less than a month! (It has a demo right now though!) store.steampowered.com/app/4546340/...

Last night, my wife was selling terrariums at a popup shop in a tattoo parlor, and I was there to help. Anyway, there was karaoke, and things were dying down, so I sang my best (it was still bad) version of What's Left of the Flag. It entirely revitalized the party. 10/10, would sing again.

With how much good coffee can make or break a tiramisu, local coffee shops should all make it daily as part of their standard offerings, competing with each other to make the best in the area. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

In a conversation with friends about Lawful Good and how that can feel at odds with itself, I quipped that the fastest way to identify a false paladin is if they're happy. This was met with some acclaim.

This is something you should definitely check out. Dominic represents the best of us in gaming.

It's TIME! TO! GET! HYPE! Today, I get to proudly unveil Steam Hype, the project I've been working on with the help of @hookshot.media for the past two and a half months. A new PC gaming site which aims to demystify PC gaming, cut through the 100+ daily releases and spotlight indies as much as AAA

Wife wanted to stop at a thrift store on the way home (took today off to recover from the festival Saturday), and there was a book in there called "Book of Projects." I couldn't help but wonder who doesn't have enough projects already that they needed a book for more?

When 9/11 happened, I was old enough to know we'd be at war, and young enough that in my mind, it would be over by the time I was old enough to be involved. You see, I thought wars were typically about 4 years long back then.

My brother enlisted quite literally during Shock and Awe - it was on the news at MEPS. By the time I was old enough, I went in too, and much to my surprise (I had enlisted in the Navy), eventually found myself in Afghanistan.

I say all this for, what to me, is a small, humorous anecdote. Maybe it's only funny in my head. Anyway, eventually Bin Laden is killed, and we get intelligence that the Taliban was planning an attack in response on one of the bases in our area.

Hey, if you like cool Indies, you should check out Louisville Makes Games. This is a group that's already raised $2000 for Louisville Gives for Good, so some great people to follow!
