It's TIME! TO! GET! HYPE! Today, I get to proudly unveil Steam Hype, the project I've been working on with the help of @hookshot.media for the past two and a half months. A new PC gaming site which aims to demystify PC gaming, cut through the 100+ daily releases and spotlight indies as much as AAA

I am in fact, very hyped for this! Huge congratulations and shoutout to a large publisher like Hookshot for supporting a new outlet, seeing the vision and understanding the industry (or trusting you and your understanding). (Also, I'd love to get your new email!)

Hi there. Hope you're doing OK 🤠. I have question. Do you cover SteamDeck too (compatibility issues, handheld controls etc)? As a SteamDeck owner, I follow Steam but hardly much PC gaming. Hope that's all OK 🤠.

Where possible, but I do most of my PC stuff on a big desktop machine. Keeping up on how things are performing on handheld hardware is more the domain of sites like Steam Deck HQ.

Oooooooh this is awesome! Congrats on the launch :D I love reading your gaming lists that you make here so I've got Stream Hype bookmarked!

Yes, we're focused mostly on Steam. Partly because this is where 99% of the game-buying happens, but also because we currently have one staff writer (me!) and one junior writer who's learning the ropes. At least 95% is me so far. Follow @steamhype.com to get updates on every article that goes live!

Yesss! DRG Survivor and Barotrauma are so criminally underrated! Some of the best games I've played in the past decade. And Barotrauma among the best friend coop games ever. Love to see them on your list 💜

I do think RimWorld is missing on your Management section, but considering that all other options there are also great, I'm inclined to concede this as personal preference of mine. Greal list.

Mods are crazy dangerous, I've been playing some Morrowind + Tamriel Rebuilt + Project Cyrodiil + Home of the Nords and I can easily see this thing taking >1000 hours of my time, and that's just one game, there's so many games out there with behemoth mods

As the parent of a two time blizztern who graduated right before the big layoff, this is all too relatable. I’m glad to see you have some hope for the future and will share this with her

Good article. It's a very weird time because all signs are either incredibly dire or incredibly optimistic, and I can only assume the same as you: we're experiencing a very uncomfortable upheaval where there will end up being a lot to lose and a lot to gain.

I think indie and AA are poised to see the most gains but also possibly the worst losses when the dust settles. I'm constantly worried and hopeful for small devs trying to get started right now.

Putting on the "akshully" hat to point out that 99% is an overstatement. It's almost 75% (and dropping in recent years) but that's still like 3/4 of the PC gaming market so... yeah, doesn't really change your point much.

That said, some of us have good reason (like Valve being progressively more abusive to certain groups of *former* customers in multiple ways over the past decade) to avoid Steam, so... I'll be hopeful that when there are alternative options for a game, you at least mention them.

Given you've been affected longer than I have, will you be using this platform to call attention to the credit card issue when its relevant?

Hopefully, this will have people talking about Steam and PC gaming as they do with PS, Xbox, and Nintendo. We need more voices in the space that talk about games more than the PC numbers and power, imo.

Congrats on the launch! With 100+ games a day on Steam, how are you picking which indies to spotlight? Is there a pitch inbox for tiny solo devs, or is it all editorial hunting? The RSS support is a genuinely dev-friendly touch, by the way.

You've recommended so many games I've absolutely adored. Everytime there's a Nextfest, you're one of the top 3 I look for a list from. Basically I'm saying...I turned off my uBlock for your site. It's a big commitment, but I'm ready.

If we want them to go away, we absolutely should ignore them. "No such thing as bad press." Not here to argue about it, but I hope you'll reconsider because I won't be comfortable supporting you while you support them.
