Fred Serval

I never thought this would happen... I entered the top 100 wargames on @boardgamegeek.com with Gest. Thanks so much to @joedewhurst.bsky.social for helping me make this game actually good, Chechu and Robert for making it look awesome, and @gmtgames.bsky.social for believing in me.

Look forward to seeing everyone there! @gmtgames.bsky.social

In two hours I'll have to answer for my crimes against board games... 😞 www.youtube.com/live/xuTHGQx...

First in-person play tests of “Mai ‘68” (en français!) A co-design by @fredserval.bsky.social and me, with @joedewhurst.bsky.social on dev as mandated by Wargame Law.

Testing some new designs in rambouillet 🫪 poke @nutspublishing.bsky.social

This Sunday I'll be on trial, live, for all my worst board game takes over the years 😑 the Homo Lundes has a very weird way of celebrating the channel reaching 9k subs. Thanks @drcrossbows.bsky.social for being the prosecutor representing the luddites 🙄 www.youtube.com/live/xuTHGQx...

Another milestone today for Homo Ludens, 9k subscribers reached! 🙏 The Discord community is working on a revolutionary trial style livestream where I'll have to justify all my worse takes... 😔

Over the last couple of years I've returned to my old habits and started playing Hex and Counter wargames again. I've been quite impressed by the games from the Swedish publisher 3CG, so here is a teach and play of one of their east front games I wanted to share, here is Iskra : youtu.be/-6BYtYAGhig

Doing some 'homework' between meetings, trying Traces of Victory from @vucasimulations.bsky.social - so far so good, small footprint, simple rules, great production and a lot of cool decisions.

In two hours @colewehrle.bsky.social will be live on Homo Ludens to chat about the new edition of An Infamous Traffic, published by @buriedgiantstudios.bsky.social - join us and take part in the chat 🫵 youtube.com/live/94SH4Ap...

For the next livestream on Homo Ludens I'll chat with @colewehrle.bsky.social about the second edition of An infamous Traffic. We'll be live on Wednesday, 9pm French time, 3pm EST, a perfect opportunity to ask all your questions and have a sneak peek at the game 👀💨 youtube.com/live/94SH4Ap...

We're live in 20 minutes !

Sunday game of The War of the Ring is becoming sort of a ritual. A Tolkien mass? ☦️ ⚔️

Tomorrow night, at 9pm French time, 3pm EST, @joedewhurst.bsky.social and I will continue our campaign of The Guerrilla Generation "Resisting Reagan". Very cool and unique way to play this new COIN multipack from @gmtgames.bsky.social youtube.com/live/rCK6lII...

Got to do a bunch of sketching in the Artist Alley, got to meet some incredibly kind & lovely people, got to chat on a panel with Reiner Knizia and got interviewed on a big fancy television set about The Old King’s Crown. What a surreal day. What an honour. Going to have a big sleep & cry.

A brief reflection on my experience last week at the Open de France des Jeux d'Histoire. It was a great experience, and I'm happy to have attended! www.hawkanddovegames.com/blog/ofjh-re...

As I'm preparing for a top 5 block wargames stream with @drcrossbows.bsky.social, Candice and @volko.bsky.social, I'm re-exploring some games to consider...

@fredserval.bsky.social is a known entity 'round here and my favorite youtube host / historical game designer / shit stirrer on the internet. Fred sez: "Organize a workers’ movement, smash some machines, and perhaps destroy capitalism along the way, all in one box? Count me in!"

New game is out ! You can back Napoleon 1870 on Kickstarter NOW www.kickstarter.com/projects/sha...

Curious about the upcoming Combat Commander: Vietnam from @gmtgames.bsky.social ? Well, tomorrow morning at 10am French time, @joedewhurst.bsky.social and I will be playing scenario 18 👀🇻🇳 youtube.com/live/fy4d10e...

Congratulations, I was playing it a few days ago in Poland with Mariusz (PHALANX developer); it remains my favourite trick taker 👍

Super proud that Jamey from @stonemaiergames.com spent a few minutes on Youtube sharing thoughts on what he likes about "A Very Civil Whist". As a designer I've been a long time fan of this format, didn't expect to ever be featured in it. youtu.be/fU5IeJiNghk?...

Nouvelle édition de Cry Havoc maintenant disponible à philibertnet.com !

@fredserval.bsky.social someone loves you so very much.

Finally sharing a preview of my upcoming game, Napoleon 1870, designed with my friend Brian Asklev (Baltic Empires), and published by Shakos (Napoleon 1806). We had a ton of fun designing it and are excited for the campaign to start on @kickstarter.com the 22nd of September ! youtu.be/xmaLSbrNmqQ

I don't always play wargames, but when I play, I play epic! Here is an XXL version of Joint Commander: Poland, a realistic simulation of a potential Russian invasion on Poland. Interesting, but at the same time pretty scary game.

Probably one of the best way to spend a Sunday

Préco direct ! Impossible de passer à côté. Vivement novembre !!!! @fredserval.bsky.social

Watched yesterday night, fantastic video.

We're live! "The Nights of King Ludd" is now available for pre-order on Kickstarter ⚒️ 🔥 www.kickstarter.com/projects/die... #history #boardgames #luddite

In a couple ou hours I'll be live with Brian Asklev to talk about introductory wargames. We'll feature games from @nutspublishing.bsky.social @gmtgames.bsky.social @ospreygames.bsky.social @multimanpublishing.bsky.social and many more 🔥 www.youtube.com/live/7FGhPmZ...

Je découvre l’insigne et la devise du 66e RI : « sans tabac »

I want to nerd out over a game I've now played twice, @gmtgames.bsky.social 's Baltic Empires, designed by Brian Asklev & developed by nonpareils @joedewhurst.bsky.social & @fredserval.bsky.social . Just look at the stunning map by artist Nils Johansson, which is busy but fantastically unique.

This Sunday we'll do an old-school Homo Ludens stream with Brian Asklev to talk about our top 5 intro games to get into historical wargames. youtube.com/live/7FGhPmZ...

In approximatively 3 hours, @joedewhurst.bsky.social and I will start our livestream series on The Guerrilla Generation's campaign, Resisting Reagan 👀 - poke @gmtgames.bsky.social youtube.com/live/VvERhDj...

A Very Civil Whist (@fredserval.bsky.social): The Parliamentarians turn early calamity into late victory!

Playtesting something new, finally trying my hand at train games 🚂

Guerre Éclair from @nutspublishing.bsky.social slaps. Great new entry in the mini wargame series. Very tight, great fog of war and pretty deep for such a simple game.

In a bit less than three hours now, @beyondsolitaire.bsky.social and I will fight for the control of the Roman Empire, while talking about Games, GenCon and stuff www.youtube.com/live/sgDGCqj...

Spotted on a map of Amsterdam, a road named after the author of Homo Ludens, the first academic text on play and games. Nice.
