A glistening little illuminated initial from a Latin Bible written in the early 14thC, possibly in Germany. It illustrates the beginning of chapter 11 of Isaiah, where the Holy Spirit (doves) rests upon the branch (the messiah). Bought by @theulspeccoll.bsky.social in 1891 & now MS Add. 3030.

Referencing “advanced intelligence technologies”. Not artificial (although the artificiality is implied by technologies) but definitely not “super.” Wondering what drafting battles lie behind that phrase. Chair's Statement of the Meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee

We may finally know that for any n, there exist n² unit vectors in ℂⁿ that all lie at the same angle from each other! More precisely, |⟨v,w⟩| is the same for any two different vectors. The proof is crazy hard, and it required a new result in category theory.

You may finally rest easy at night since SICs exist in all dimensions! github.com/marozols/SIC... SICs are d² unit vectors in d complex dimensions with pairwise equal inner products. Their existences in all dimensions d was conjectured by Zauner in 1999. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIC-POVM

that the mathematical literature as a whole is so reliable comes down to the fact that, over time, we have made an even number of sign errors

*Look, science fiction was invented in the 1920s, while libraries have been burning-down ever since Sumeria *However, Artificial Intelligences getting burned down by remotely-targeted robot missiles, that's an exciting new trend *Is this situation some fantasist's "anxiety," no it isn't

It's funny, really: sci-fi literally depicts this stuff - desscrution of digital databases leading to complete loss of knowledge. Then again, that's more a case of just reflecting the anxieties of the present rather than predicting the future. Disturbing to see it play out, though.

Things I learn by talking to people: Inventiones has a very good AI policy. We should have the same policy everywhere, including arXiv. First and foremost "AI cannot be an author". (No, I don't like the word seminal either.) link.springer.com/journal/222/...
