Happy to share that @averynoonan.bsky.social paper “Phylogeny-agnostic strain-level prediction of phage–host interactions from genomes using machine learning” is now published in @natmicrobiol.nature.com 🎉🎊 👉🏽 rdcu.be/nR2NizD7H5va

We built GenoPHI: a machine learning workflow that predicts phage-host interactions at strain level. This could help rapidly select phages to treat drug-resistant bacterial infections or for microbiome engineering without exhaustive lab testing. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

🦠Fully funded PhD project with myself, Angus Buckling, Jo Lello and Phil Mitchelmore🦠 How should we design phage therapeutics for bacterial co-infections? How do interactions between pathogens affect treatment efficacy? Please get in touch if you have any Qs 💃 shorturl.at/39Xea

Very happy that this piece of research finally sees the daylight! Super nice collaboration between Nanjing, York and Helsinki. Fun fact: we started this work over 10 years ago when I was working as a fellow at Imperial College. Sometimes good things come to those who wait.

In our latest work, we characterise the Tmn defence system. We reveal plasmolysis as a new way to block phage infection, dramatically reducing secondary infections.

🚨Preprint alert - this is a big one! We transfer the revolutionary power of TnSeq to bacteriophages. Our HIDEN-SEQ links the "dark matter" genes of your favorite phage to any selectable phenotype, guiding the path from fun observations to molecular mechanisms. A thread 1/8

Michael Lin (Stanford) reports his grant on anti-COVID meds was terminated. Pandemics become endemic. Endemic diseases require treatments. Treatments require research. Research requires continuity of support. Continuity of support requires federal funding. But the WH just doesn't get it.
